Default FFXIII Demo details.

Quote:
Okay, looks like the issue due to be released on Tuesday has leaked in certain stores in Japan. Someone on 2ch has gotten a hold of the mag but info is still trickling in. Here's what we know so far:

- The FFXIII demo disc included with FFVIIACC will be a PS3 disc, it's not on a standard blu-ray movie disc. This is good news for people with Euro PS3s, since it'll probably mean the demo will work even if the movie is region locked.

- There're 3 realtime screens of Agito XIII from the trailer, including a screen of Odin.

- 3 pages worth of FFXIII screens and stuff, about 20 screens. There are realtime screens too apparently.

- The FFXIII demo will be from the opening part of the game, and will be longer than FFVIIAC (longer than 90mins? ).

- 4 pages on Versus, about 10 screens all realtime.

- The world in Versus XIII worships a Shinigami and the Shinigami is designed by Amano

- The cars and clothing seen in the trailers so far will probably change in design for the final game

- The morale of the team is really high!

OMG AGITO XIII:

- They moved it to the PSP because they couldn't wait for cellphones to get more advanced lolz

- The battle will be heavy on action but still sort of turn based. It will use an advanced version of Crisis Core's high speed ATB system.

- Crisis Core was 1 player, but this time there will be multiple characters in the party.

- Right now it supports Infrastructure multiplayer for up to 3 players.

- Summons are part of the character growth system, and can also be controlled by players after summoning.

- The game will support both Ad-hoc and Infrastructure.

Edit (updates/clarifications):

- FFXIII will definitely have a party battle system, where you control each character as they switch turns, like in a normal FF. It will not be like FFXII.

- FFXIII's story is being written such that every single of the main characters will feel like protagonists, instead of just supporting characters.

- At the top of the building where the prince and the heroine of Versus meet, there is a painting. That painting is the Shinigami that is worshipped in the world, and the painting of it in the game itself, is drawn by Amano.

- The name of the prince and the heroine in Versus will be revealed at TGS.

I'm very patient. Unlike a lot of people on these forums, I'd rather have it when it's ready, rather than early and buggy (*coughs*windowsvista, Microsoft, fix your shit).

Besides, it's coming to PS3 stateside, not sure why I'd have to learn Japanese...

I too can wait. I still enjoy the FF series as a mainstay of JRPGs, but that's really more for the spectacle and cut-scenes, with a good story or engaging characters thrown in as a happy bonus. For me JRPGs have been a lot more satisfying--overall--with smaller titles like Suikoden or Shin Megami Tensei because the stories tend to take more chances and be more complex. Also, Suikoden has that addictive 108 character Pokemon thing happening where ya gotta' befriend 'em all.

Yes and no.

FFVII was a good story but seemed to have a lot of holes in it that were only more fully explained with subsequent games that built on the lore. What I like about Suikoden and SMT games is that they're essentially self-contained. But of course, talking about FFVII is going after a fairly sacred cow to a certain generation of gamer. It's still a landmark in the genre, with iconic characters, but the story as a whole for FFVII didn't really "come together" until after all the ancillary material and games fleshed it out. FFXII on the other hand was very, very good and had a plot that was extremely reminiscent of the political intrigue that I enjoy so much in Suikoden titles. However, I think the game ultimately suffered from the original director leaving the project and the game itself being hastily finished in order to ship it out on time. It's not quite as bad as what I experienced in the first Fable, but I did feel that FFXII had a good story going on that was diminished somewhat by the end, where they were trying to wrap things up too quickly, and a lot of the careful character development and political nuance got lost in the rush to bring you to the final boss fight.

I love both games, but I think that the smaller games, though suffering from a lack of budget for all the visual fireworks, might be better balanced in a narrative sense. Of course, having a better narrative still doesn't have quite the same wow-factor as the first time you saw a summon at work in FFVII, but that's why we play those games...

I was just saying the plots in those two games were complicated; that's all.

And you're right. I just wanted to elaborate on what I'd said earlier because after your reply I realized I wasn't being fair to those games, and it sounded a bit dismissive to just say "all non FF games have more complex stories."

I am so not caring for Square games right now. Seriously, I finally got some hands-on time on Crisis Core and all it made me realize is that Square DESPERATELY need to move away from the CG overkill.

People complain about Kojima's use of cinematics, but those feel far more natural to me than anything Square's made in the last decade.

I don't care about how shiny fake things are in an RPG any more... all your fucking RPGs sound and look alike now.

I'll wait for the game. I'll be damned if I'll buy this terrible movie just to play a demo.
