...what difference does it make to anyone on this board which console sells more units?

The Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 are here to stay and no amount of pointless arguing and calling each other stupid will change that.

With that said, one of my Xbox 360 elites got the red ring of death TWO WEEKS AGO and Microsoft still hasn't sent me a box... I have called multiple times and they assure me that the box will get here. At least neither of my PS3s have died, but, then again, I only use them as Blu-ray players.

One of the best parts for me is watching the executives (and some of the posters here!) suddenly change their strategies or markets their geared towards depending on the sales results.

But yeh the war is already over. Nintendo is back after years of decline with the N64 and Gamecube and they are blowing away the competition in one of the best sweeps of the other consoles. It's up there with PS2s domination a few years ago and the NES domination of the 80's

console war is no different than any other entity that has a fan base.
Cars, sports teams, etc.

It's drastically changed over the years however.
People are far angrier and hostile, plus the commercial aspect of it grew (paid shills).

What place they make in the end doesn't and shouldn't matter. There is compelling software for both systems. They are both very viable platforms, and that's a good thing. Only ignorant fanboys really care. I think we should put the numbers into some context, and recognize that regardless of how well the PS3 sells or the 360 sells, as long as they are pulling healthy numbers, it's all good.

Speaking of ignorant fanboys, I wonder if Darkfalz has been sleeping well the past three months given that the PS3 has outsold the 360 three months in a row now, five total YTD.

Luckily consensus =/= fact, either.

It's all in tastes, really. Balanced, intelligent people can agree that no two gamers will have the exact same tastes in gaming. That's a good thing, though, because that makes gaming more of an artform than a science or a mere toy. At least that's how I see it.

Gaming isn't a science, it's an art. Art is appreciated differently by different people, just like music, movies, paintings, and TV. I think we can all agree with that. Just because some "authority" or "metric" says something, doesn't make it true.

Do we even listen to film critics anymore? Aren't they kind of a worthless bunch to begin with? They try to tell people to not see a given movie but if interest in a movie is high, it won't stop anyone.

I've never, in my life, heard of people "waiting for reviews" for movies.

And when they don't then it doesn't matter as long as the cosumer reviews are rated better on Metacritic. And if that isn't the case then Metacritic doesn't matter and it's whichever sites he can find that score the 360 version better and only that site matters. And if he can't find that then reviews don't matter anyway because they're all subjective. Until a 360 game scores better than a PS3 game ... then they matter again
