I don't recall but I'm willing to take your word for it. Either way, it's kind of strange that it mysteriously goes out of stock country-wide for months without any officials updates on it's status. Point is there was no 80GB before the MGS4 bundle and there is none on the horizon afterward. Sony seems to be deliberately limiting the supply of the 80GB but I have no idea why.

Well IMO it's getting a little silly.
Pretty soon it's going to get absurd when the next GTA freeze happens. Pinpointing models effected will be fun! I'd assume you knock the 80 down and launch a 160 gig ps3.
It's probably killing sony they have a smaller HDD penis than MS atm.XBL: Phil Collins117

Just think that it is a VERY vague post to start a thread about. It would be nice to see something a little more than just a sentence or two about this rumor. Very little evidence and a whole lot of speculation.
I'll play.
I think that they may be getting the stock of their older units to make place for their new 65 or 45nm core(I can't remember which they used first a 90 or the 65nm core) which is said to be cooler and more energy efficient that the current model. They may even be making the 80GB the standard at $399 or even bringing back full BC to all the models that they are offering.
Your guess is as good as mine, FWIW.To hell with it, it is all just an opinion....

I don't mind if they continually increase the HDD sizes as long as the rest of the hardware remains the same. In fact, I hope that the 60GB 360 rumor is true because 20GB is kinda ridiculous in 2008. Even if nobody uses it, HDD space is cheap as dirt these days and with the high cost of upgrading a 360 HDD it gives a little peace of mind to get a decent sized one with the console.

I hear Galaxy is brilliant, and it probably is. Just can't picture myself sitting down and playing it. That would take time away from watching the Disney Channel and working on my coloring book.Ryan Payton (MGS4 Associate Producer) -

This was my thought too.
Cell is on 65 nm at the moment with 45nm production starting next year, rsx is 90nm at the mo with 65nm hitting retail in the autumn, which I guess fits with fading out the 40gig model ...
I don't quite understand why they can't faze in the 65nm rsx without cancelling the 40 ... maybe economies of scale have shifted for hdds and they can go a bit bigger for same $$? -
