How the PS4 can outdo the Xbox 720
There are several things Sony needs to do to ensure they win next gen. Some obvious some not. Here's what I came up with:
1. They MUST launch at the same time. Achievements, Live and the lower price helped the 360 but that head start was the clincher IMO.
2. Consistency when it comes to Online gaming. We'd all love it to be free but if its going to cause 3rd party devs to get headaches and to scramble and host their games just charge for it.
3. Pay for exclusives. The Kuturagi handshake deals are over now that the market share has shrunk, lock up those 3rd party titles.
4. Consider the 3rd parties when designing the CPU/processor.
5. A nice varied launch lineup and at least one exclusive killer app. PS3's launch was filled with delayed games, year old 360 ports, PS2 ports and one really awful exclusive (Mobile Suit Gundam). I am a big fan of Resistance but I feel like it was almost the Luigi's Mansion of Sony launch lineups.
6. Include a headset, component cables and maybe a demo(physical disc or saved in the hard drive). We want people knowing the benefits of high definition and that they can talk online from day one. The demo could advertise games available now and upcoming to get people psyched. And perhaps a walkthrough explaining the store/differences in cables/online gaming.
7. Don't make the hard drives proprietary like MS. Keep the uprgadeable system we have now
8. This should be a given but Home, trophies, in game XMB, and the store should top notch by the time the PS4 launches.
9. They must launch at 299. Losses are a given at that price but systems will sell faster and there will be a healthy attach rate early on. Software is where the money's at. This formula worked twice for Sony It can work again. -

How the PS4 can outdo the Xbox 720?
I know how:
Two dollar entry-price and hentai dating sims come standard in every unit.Great quotes on the internet:

I don't think all of these are necessary, but I find #3, #4, and #9 to some degree as essential (399 would probably do the job).

Thats a good list, but this thread may be a bit ahead of its time. Honestly those features just sound like slight improvements to this generation. Next gen consoles should make this current gen look like N64/PSX in comparison. We really need some hardware and innovation that pushes the industry forward, not just more of the same. (extremely advanced physics and AI should be paramount next gen, as they have sadly shown little improvement in the past 5-10 years).

Definitely. It should be a clear step forward. As far as new standards, map deformation should standard for MP. Red Faction was 1st for me and BFBC is great. No way an airstrike can't take out a tin shed like COD4. I wanna be separated by rubble by the time the match ends.

You're right. Perhaps I should have said "copy the Xbox Live model and work from there"

I'm certain that the 720 will cover most if not all of these. It becomes essential when the competition has it and you don't.I don't think all of these are necessary, but I find #3, #4, and #9 to some degree as essential (399 would probably do the job). -

The PS4 with BD drive 4X will own the ps3 and the 360.
also for #3 to have extra ram and cpu power to make up for devs slacking -
