Hmm. Hadn't seen that one before. It didn't even really look like Phil Hartman to me.

It's definitely funny, but, to me, not as funny as the Socom commercial.

Halo's ad campaigns were more like promoting more about Master Chief where as this ad campaign for R2 looks like its dealing with the mental issues and trauma of R2. They are both different. The only thing thats common is that they are doing an ad campaign outside the gaming field like in reality just like what Halo did but no way they are similar.

Taking this an opportunity what i would like to say about Sony is that you guys seriously suck in promoting a game in terms of commercials and any other ads. I am not talking with ad campaign of R2 but the other games. Sony doesn't take that they are supposed to promote the game thing seriously.

Guys, tell me how many commercials have you guys seen of the PS exclusives like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo or the recent MGS4 compared to Microsoft exclusives like Gears Of WarBioshock or Mass Effect etc.? Imagine MGS4 has gone as a 360 exclusive this generation, Microsoft would have promoted the hell out of that game. Sony should take an initiative that doing these kind of ad campaigns and nice commercials creates interest in peoples mind about these games and in turn will educate them more about the game and what platform its on resulting in more sales than without any promotion.

In this aspect Microsoft has really nailed it this generation. Its like the "King of promoting a game" this gen. I give props to Microsoft in that aspect, awesome stuff.

Sony has sucked it up in the advertising this generation. I think I watch a lot of TV and I've hardly seen any commercials for Sony products.

    Uncharted - Can't honestly remember 1
Ratchet - 5-10 at least, especially the holiday one
MGS4 - none as stand alone, but I've seen it in a 3 part one
    GT5P - same as above

Gears - Wow, can't count how many times
    Halo - Same
    Mass Effect - Only 1 or 2

And the console ad's have completely sucked. The PS1 one's were the best (I still remember that 10 year old kid saying "I've conquered worlds"), the PS2 one's were cool as well (the golfers and porn stars one was hilarious).
But no, this time round they come up with there lame-ass nonsensical crap that makes anyone who sees them go "What the fuck was that all about?". THEN they finally come up with an absolutely kick ass ad (the "octopus/tentacles" one with that rocking "I'm in control" song in the background") and what do they do? They fire the ad company that made it. What the hell? Sonys PS3 advertising has been absolutely dismal this time round, say what you like about MS, love them or hate them, they know how to run a fucking successful marketing campaign.

Yeah, the two Q4 PS3 TV spots were fucking badass.... Sony has been slowly but surely getting their shit together in other areas, but their ads are truly quite weak, for the most part.

Microsoft isn't perfect either, as they seem to be more behind Madden, Gears, and Halo, which is fine because they are sure-fire sellers, but if you really want people to think your console is the universal choice for gaming, throw some moderately strong campaigns for games like Lost Odyssey and throw some resources Square's way when Infinite Undiscovery comes out. (I'm a JRPG guy... had to get it out of my system).

Bingo, you got what i was trying to say, it is so stupid that they don't advertise the console which is the most expensive console ever and neither for the games on the console.

You said they are getting their shit together but i don't see any. We had the exact same conversations at this time last year when everyone said 2007 will be the year for the PS3 with exclusives like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Home & possibly killzone 2. In reality what actually happened is one of their high budget exclusives bombed while few others done mediocre. Home might not even come out this year while Killzone 2 is scheduled for 2009.

Right now all over the forums across the internet the same conversations are coming up saying 2008 will be the year for the PS3 with exclusives like MGS4, GT5P etc. In reality i don't see this happening with all their game cancellations, delays and the strong line up its competitor(360) has. On top of this their advertising sucks.

For example PS3 is the best selling Blu-ray player and they don't even promote it in that aspect either. I still don't understand why they don't bundle with a Blu-ray movie which is not going to cost them anything but would rather make the consumer go for Blu-ray movies after watching the impressive video & audio quality. They don't even bundle Hi-def cables even for their premium version or the 80GB console in spite of the fact that PS3 is born for 1080p content. They don't bundle the console with a headset with knowing the fact that most of the titles coming out right now are having multi-player while some titles are strictly multi-player which has gone into the masses of the video game players.

I'm sorry to bring all these issues in this R2 topic but its been almost 2 years since the console came out and some of the very basic issues haven't even been resolved yet while they do all sorts of other crap like google search on the XMB etc. This is just unacceptable for any company.

Don't even get me started on 360 but if you take that at least they are delivering in their software aspect which is why the attention is all over the PS3 which has a lot more to prove.

    Most expensive console ever?

You need to stop listening to the Sony hating MAD members propaganda

    I'll save you the effort of looking up what beats it;

    #1 Panasonic 3DO US launch price - $699.95
#2 Neo Geo US launch price - $649.99

    PS3 60GB US launch price - $599
    PS3 20GB US launch price - $499

So in case you hadn't noticed the PS3 actually launched in the US with an SKU $200 cheaper than the most expensive console launched. Funny how so many Xbots seem to be ignorant of that fact and still spread this shit about

Sorry, i didn't know that but still the launch price of the PS3 is high none the less. I am not complaining about the price as i bought one on Day 1 as i know all the features it has. Not everyone goes through the forums or not everyone is into tech to know what all the PS3 does.

What i am saying is that it is Sony's job to educate people what it is capable of. It needs to advertise the console and its games more, a lot more.

Man, the Neo Geo, that takes me back to the 90's... I didn't actually have one in my house, but a buddy of mine back then was crazy enough to pick it up. Many an hour was spent playing Magician Lord and Fatal Fury.

And then when Samurai Showdown came out and it was--obviously--arcade perfect. Holy crap...

The Neo Geo was worth it at the time. It was the ONLY console capable of playing games that looked as good as the arcades for the era.

I was never lucky enough to play a Neo Geo home console but my local pool hall had an arcade version with a load of games on it and it was the nuts
