Default PSN to remain free, Invites coming...

    http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...temid=2&show=1

    http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/07/02/...-leap-forward/

This should hopefully kill the rumours of PSN becoming a pay service...

To start, Lempel says "some of the [features of 2.40] people have been requesting for some time, some of them are a bit newer. We have a roadmap and there were a lot of other things on the roadmap that we had to deliver prior to these features." They won't release features until they are completely ready and have developer support and interest behind them -- this may be implying that it's difficult to get developers on board for custom soundtracks (the ability is already on the PS3 and it's up to developers to support it). Cross-game invites are also on this 'roadmap' for the future.

He promised gamers that the PlayStation Network will remain free, stating that it's "nice for consumers who want to try out the online experience, those who may be new to it and may not be ready to commit to spending dollars, and that's a really good message for us. Being free also gives them the opportunity to spend the money that they may have spent on a subscription on online items or online games instead." He also says that he'd like to see more games on the PS Store -- like PS One titles. Whether or not these things will come in the next few months is anyone's guess ... but for now, we're pretty happy with the direction the PS3 is taking.

Invites coming? Hell, it's only been two years, why not wait another two? Who really wants to play with their friends anyway?

Um, how hard is it for you to send a message to someone telling them were you are?

I have one major issue with people bitching about 2.40's lack of in-game XMB during blu-ray and DVD playback.. and that is: WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT THAT DURING A MOVIE?

It's such a pain in the ass to get constant friend log-in reminders on my 360 when I'm watching a movie... I don't want that on my PS3...
    Great quotes on the internet:

I hear Galaxy is brilliant, and it probably is. Just can't picture myself sitting down and playing it. That would take time away from watching the Disney Channel and working on my coloring book.

just turn off the notifications on. when I was watching a movie it was really annoying but then I learned you could just turn notifications on or off.

Still costs $250-$300 less than your 360 though.

Actually I got that a bit wrong. Assume you'll own and use your 360 for 6 years (because as well all know there will be no new XBOX until 2011) in total then you need to add about $300 on to the cost of your console as you are making extra yearly payments to MS in order to use basic functionality. It means that the 360 at launch with the deferred costs is actually $699 while the PS3 cost at launch $499-$599.

The 360 is therefore between $100-$200 more expensive than the PS3 (assuming you got both systems at launch).
