Why did America hate the PS3?
It's selling great guns in all the other regions.. I have tweo theories:
1/ Americans like to buy American products, regardless of how crap and unreliable they might be compared to the foreign competition.
2/ Microsofts year head start meant a very vocal userbase stuck with a clearly inferior console, and the "safety in numbers" mindset, where 360 owners would convince friends to buy the inferior 360 and enforce the Microsoft created "it's cool to hate PS3" attitude, with all that crap on Youtube like "How Sony killed the brand" nonsense songs and the like..
Clearly the tide is turning, and people in American are no longer under the illusion that PS3 is a dead duck, but I wonder how Microsoft managed to master the spin to get people to hate it so much. I mean if you look at both consoles first year games, they both sucked badly, if anything the 360 games in the first year sucked much more..

Could have something to do with the price of the PS3 upon introduction and the hubris the SCEA had about Americans when they complained about the price. Something like "Get a second job to pay for it" or something.

Everyone hate the PS3 because the Bluray drive made it far too over priced, intial online support was weak, and library paled miserably next to the 360. That whole Bluray inclusion led to Sony's undoing.

What undoing is that?

I think the Wii disproves the original posters xenophobic, only buy American "crap" theory.

The PS3 sales in the US has been disappointing for Sony, even though it has been sold at a loss from the start and is a great value here. Anytime I can buy something that does so much so well at much less than it costs to make, that gets my attention. The PS3 is anything but overpriced, the problem may be that the market that wants all of the things it does is smaller than I thought it would be. It is probably true that any gamers that have no interest in the other things it does find it overpriced compared to the competition. The XBox 360 sold better because it was less expensive and US purchasers that want only a gaming console found that attractive. Maybe somebody has an explanation why consumers in Japan and other countries want more than just a game console, I don't know the reason but I think it will change soon and even US consumers will pull their heads out of their butts and see what a great product it is and what a great value it is.

Motorstorm was sweet but Oblivion was first year on the 360 as well. Warhawk was pretty solid, have had some very fun sessions with it, however I never felt it reached levels of "spectacular" that I had hoped for. Heavenly Sword was probably the most under appreciated game of the year last year. I've played through it three times, and probably will play around with it some more of the years, very pretty and very fun...I always considered HS to be a bimbo-like video game. DOn't forget Ninja Gaiden Sigma, that was probably my favorite first year game for the PS3. Uncharted was actually released slightly after the first year mark,s o that cannot be included ont he list.
Also graphically the 360's NEXT GEN impact was so incredible for its time, it was a considerable upgrade over the Xbox, PS2 and CUbe. PGR3 IMO was a better game for its time. Also I won a Live contest and got to race Jack Black so I am partial to that game, me thinks. Actually although it was maligned, I rather enjoyed Perfect Dark Zero, although I regarded it as inferior to the original, the online multiplayer was the best (and only online 360 shooter at the time). BUT, COndemned, and Dead Rising, for me, COMPLETELY trumped the line up the Sony offered during its first year. I loved those two games, and they are both some of current gen favorites (including Condemned 2).
Don't get me wrong, PS3 is the better system, and will prove to be so in the coming years. Just get teh facts straight, the 360 had an extremely strong showing its first year. Probably the strongest first year launches for any system that I can remember. -

The (currently) best selling car in America is the Honda Civic.
Please show me an example of Microsoft creating a "cool to hate PS3" attitude.
Why bother? You're not interested in real discussion. You're like a broken record.XBL: The Refresher

DISCLAIMER: I recently purchased a PS3
In order:
1) Not true. Why have Hondas and Toyotas been selling so well over the past decade? Blackberries (a Canadian product) own the corporate phone sector.
2) Sony got beaten to the punch (with a much more expensive product) and still continues to rest on its laurels. Take a trip to your local Gamestop. The 360 has a larger game library available at a lower price point compared to the PS3's.
Piss poor marketing, high prices, stupid "get a second job" statements don't exactly help. You forget that the Wii has absolutely trounced both systems.
Also, Retro-gaming (pretty popular on XBL) is virtually non-existent on the PS3 other than Q-bert, or unless you pick up a copy of a Namco Museum game on eBay.
