Wii shortages

This continues to baffle me. There is nothing hi def or hi tech about this machine. Why is there a shortage?

I think Nintendo is purposely limiting production to keep the demand artificially high, and in the news constantly.

What is in the Wii that is so hard to manufacture?

I agree.

We just got Wiis in the same time we got 360s in and those were out first since early jan.

I don't think Nintendo ever ramped up manufacturing. They have a few lines and thats it. This is how they cause a biased shortage supply... by not expanding the current one.

Just my opinion though. I do think it also has to do with the WORLD wanting a Wii. NA market, SA market, EU, JAP, AUS, etc...

Its a fun console! Its cheap! The games cost less! I was lucky to get one last June and its a blast.

I've played bowling and golf. But for sports games it's pathetic.

Does it even output in hi def? My son got one for xmas, but we ended up selling it, it never was used.

Try Madden. I barely got to try it, don't like playing american football games much and it was fun. Heard some upcoming soccer, aka real futebol/football, games are looking really good

Well, it is selling in nearly unprecedented amounts, so there's that.

I don't really get it though...the longer this thing is out, the less interested I get. I would've bought one last year just cause, but now, I've just decided to pass.

I bought one on day 1, and fell asleep with the controller in my hand while playing Twilight Princess.

I never beat Twilight Princess, and outside of Wii sports - nothing on the system gave my any real inscentive to keep it/play it.

I gave mine away this last Christmas to a less fortunate fam... I hope they enjoy it more than I did.

actually they sold 452,000 last month and you still cant find one ANYWHERE. they have increased production like crazy and still cant meet demand. Dont be fanboys about this, just look realistically at the numbers and you can see the the wii is the most popular console of all time. I have a PS3 and a wii, and playing games like uncharted which requires using the analog to aim the gun, versus actually pointing the gun at the screen puts the PS3 at a huge disadvantage! Graphics dont make games, gameplay does (as seen in burnout paradise). Pick up a copy of smash bros brawl and you'll see why its so popular.

This lucky bastard at my Wal-Mart walked off with one for free. Wal-Mart messed something up and he walked out with it. The manager and the clerk were arguing and the clerk through up his arms and went, "Oh no, he just got a free Wii".

I was like... damnit... why doesn't shit like that happen for me.

what's with all the gay bashing? If it were true that only gay people liked the wii, then that means the gay population outnumbers the straight population by like 60%? wii has outsold PS3 and xbox 360 consistently since day 1. and i'm no fanboy of any 1 console or HD media format (purple, along with having both PS3 and wii).

Its not hard to manufacture. There is just too much demand for the thing. The Wii is selling at a faster rate than any console in history.

They upped their numbers 3 times last year and are due for another production increase soon, if it hasn't already happened. Before the holidays they were producing 1.8 million Wiis/month.
