I would disagree that it looked better than Zelda.
Now, SMB3? That definitely was one of the better looking NES titles. -

Proof? He SAID it was, that's all the proof you need!!I dont know about that. Do you have any proof to back that up? Maybe an old school review...I don;t recall people knocking its graphics, but I definitley have never heard anyone say it was an envelope pusher.

Yes, ports, which really doesn't say much.
I never said anything about the "reputability" of the sources of MC, but the relativity of them. I think you misread what I said and went off on a tangent. That was pretty much the only time I have ever used MC as a reputable source. And reputable for a general argument it is...4 or 5 exclusive titles scoring 90 or higher vs ZERO exclusive titles scoring 90 or higher is a big difference and MC is a quality source for that type of info. (This may have changed with R&C, and even if it did its still 5 or 6 vs 1).
Notable Volume 11 quotes bashing games that score below his expectations...Second, when did I ever say MC was gospel? When did I ever say games that scored in the low 90s were unplayable?

I agree it is an expensive console, however, that has nothing to do with using metacritic or game ratings. They are only 'overhyped' because people who own the system are talking about those games, not because there is a media frenzy out there purchased by Sony. Whether advertising a game is "overhyping" is debatable, but I think Halo 3 was the defintion of "overhyping" in advertising a game, and no Sony game I can think of comes even near that media blitz. My whole stance has always been that the PS3 cost $400-$600 which puts it at the most expensive price point for entry level console gaming by almost $120 and all you are getting is over-hyped games scoring below 90.
Because using MC to quantify whether you're going to enjoy something is silly, and it's based on the arbitrary numbers assigned by people who may or may not be legitimatly qualified. Researching a game and determining whether you think it will be good based on what you read (the actual dialog and discussion of the reviewer), not a slew of numbers you scanned through on metacritic seems far more rational approach. Again you might do this, but when you argue, you simply point at numbers and say 'bad'.Using MC in that sense is completly fair and reasonable...Ive always asked why you pay more to get less and MC backs that up beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Well it seems now you're commenting more on Sony's bad marketing, not on the fact the system does infact have some great games (in my opinion). I'm not sure that any company "makes promises", there are no promises in that buisness, just stated expectations and the resulting reality.Things will obviously change as time goes on and more games are released for both consoles, but for the next year or so its where I see the PS3 staying, ie the most expensive console with the most undelivered promises. Note that it wasnt me who said that the PS3 was going to kill the 360. Note that it wasnt me who said next gen starts when we say so. Note it wasnt me who said people would worlk two jobs to buy one. Note that I also didn;t say that if no games were released for the PS3 people would still buy it.
When you display that type of arrogance to your customers you deserve to be put through the wringer and held to a higher level of accountability...and in all regards the PS3 has failed any quantifiable measurement and Sony has put that level of scrutiny on themselves, not me.
Again, I think you're confused, I never said relevant, I said relative and was quoting you who said "reviews are relative" - which I agreed.Furthermore, I never said reviews weren't relevant. I never said people shouldnt ultimately judge them on their own. I never said or did anything you claimed in your post about me.
I don't "defend" low score games, since I don't pay attention to scores period. I only have one measure I use, good/bad, the games fall into that category. You do however hold your standard of "good" via metacritic over other peoples as the more superior and valid, but as I've said before, I think it's silly and not a very accurate means of judging a game. Finally, Im not defending a low scored MC game as awesome, like you and your PS pals have been doing in large order for some time. The nerd is a tirelessly predictable creature whom the promise of boobies is like a bacon sandwich to a starving wolf. - Yahtzee

Of course I don't have proof of something like that. Although, I did just randomly check the VC version's review of SMB, and it refers to its graphics as "amazingly memorable."
As for the Zelda comparison: I know it's a matter of opinion, but come on. Zelda just looks laughable nowadays, whereas SMB still looks quite nice even today (by 2D standards).Receiver: Denon 3808CI / Remote: Logitech Harmony 1

I got an early copy of Galaxy a few days ago from a friend who works in the industry, and personally, I disagree with most of the reviews.
I actually prefer Mario Sunshine. The controls in Galaxy are oddly floaty, the graphics are not really better than Sunshine, there's far too much clicking on slow-scrolling text, the Midi-sounding effects and music are lame, and the fixed camera presents a host of problems when trying to go anywhere. The little planets are so short and simple and bracketed by LONG cutscenes of non-interactive flying and reading I've been unable to dedicate more than a couple hours at a time. It just doesn't have the same pull as the earlier Mario games, at least to me.
Is it good? Yes. Amazingly great? Not to me anyway. -

If it looks as good as Mario Sunshine I'd be happy, but them screenshots and opinions from several people I know who have played the game state it looks far nicer than Mario Sunshine (which imo took a ridiculously unfair bashing for it's gorgeous highly stylized visuals).

I think apart of gaming is bringing out the kid in all of us. Or bringing back the care free days of childhood after growing up gaming like myself.
In short, i'm more than comfortable with my manhood. I'm a nerd. I play mario, zelda, and atm Fire Emblem. And thouroghly enjoy them.
My favorite xbox live arcade game atm is puzzle quest. While kiddy, is a great game.XBL: Phil Collins117

I'm just after the prison break. I'm a fire emblem pro though :P
I did get to load my old game cube save as well. And no I don't care if its not a jump from the gamecube original. I don't care. So to the first person that complains about graphics, go spit.
But yes its tough. The first few battles have been harder than expected. I'm awaiting Ike and the gang from the first one to show up.
Greil Mercenaries 4 life. lol jk.
So initial impressions. Exactly what i expected. Excellent so far.XBL: Phil Collins117

I think he is just knocking the presentation. There is a certain level of "presentation" that one expects from gaming now. Nintendo is still using midi music, and old school text displays. It just screams 16-bit Generation of gaming, and shows they haven't changed much since the N64. That's been my biggest gripe with them. I don't care about reading, but I don't like the lack of sound while reading. It makes their games come off as empty, and lifeless.
I've played Galaxy, and I liked it. However, I thought the first level was terrible, and not fun. The "star shooting" element felt tacked on. Now, once I got to the second level, the quality improved. Not the "revelation" that I was waiting for, but a good game the Wii.
My opinion might change once I get to delve a little deeper. I have the game preordered at ToysRus. I'll see if the game can keep it's fun.
IAMSPiNALtAP:
Those aren't "equal" screenshots. The Mario Galaxy are direct Screens, whereas , the screens from Sunshine are from off the TV. Not exactly fair...
