There is a new FCC report detailing testing done on a new Playstation model AK8CBEH1000 - CECHG01. At least I think it's a new model number, file date is 9/4/07.
The 60 GB was CECHA01 and 80 GB was CECHE01. -

I want a $399 PS3. As someone who never owned a PS2 BC means nothing, but I will say in general we have now taken a step backwards. Easily 60% of my xbox games don't play on my 360. Do i think a $399 outsells the 360. No, but it does close the gap. Sony needs more games.

If they can get it to $399, the Ps3 will match or beat the Xbox 360 (but not the wii) during the holidays in NA as that price point is somewhat closer to the Xbox 360 and is starting to get into territory where it might start pulling in PS2 users in big numbers (especially if the PS2 exclusives get moved forward).
It will then inevitably pull away going into 2008 as the PS2 exclusives pull in users.
PS. The one factor I am concerned about is the Wii, which may be pulling away lots of Ps2 users already, who may not have enough cash to then get into Ps3 -

It's not sold out yet. They've only shipped all the 60GB units they have. There are still 60GB units on store shelves..

Did sony say 399.99 anywhere cause this just seems like speculation of a price drop. Just because they use cheaper parts doesnt mean a price drop. Hell they removed emotion engine but it didnt get any cheaper for the 80gb inferior version.

The 40gb isnt a rumor. We've gotten emails about this at gamestop saying it was coming right when we got the 80gb in. However they're gonna be the price of the 60GB model once its disscontinued.
Ironically what I think will happen is that the 60GB will actually be cheaper than the 40GB because they wont have sold all the 60GB and the 40gb will come out with the same MSRP value of 499.99. -

That would be hilarious, but then what price would the 80 GB be once the "limited edition" bundle ends?
