Amazing isn't it, people have different opinions. I happen to agree, ChronoTrigger Rocked.

GI sucks. They trash warhawk but love blue dragon -_-

So they hate ONLINE ONLY games, but love SINGLE PLAYER games.

Makes sense. Kill xbox live.. no wait.
GI sucks because they like an xbox game and didn't give warhawk at 10 out of 10??? I don't get it. GI is usually right on with my opinions and its likely i'll love blue dragon as i'm a old school rpg hound.

I'm pretty sure they dinged shadowrun, not sure what your point is, 'had they' um they didn't. And I don't think they trashed warhawk really. Online only games only appeal to a small crowd, you need to look beyond yourself. Considering the PS3 is in its fledgeling stage a multiplayer only game won't be booming yet likely. Most users have no clue about hi definition gaming / 75% wasn't it???? how many do you think probably even connect to the net?

i'd hope halve. but who knows. I'll judge blue dragon when i pick it up tommorrow. But i'm a rpg fan. GI however is probably over all the best magazine for balanced reviews in my book. They're pretty blunt as well, which i like. No bs about pro's and con's.

Most sites trash blue dragon for being traditional.... when its a traditional rpg pretty much made to sell in japan.

Because the story doesnt even need to be completed to beat the game?
At any point you can change the story. its not a solid story because it can be changed so many ways by do so many different things. It doesnt have concert storyline. Is it an amazing game? Fuck yes it is. But the story isnt one of great depth. Its more about having enjoyable characters and good dialog than a strong story. Another example is lunar. Very generic story but one of my favorites.

Not true at all. I mean Chrono Trigger has a weak story but the way its told and the way it plays saves it it and makes it one of the greatest games to play.

Grandia Xtreme didnt just suffer from a bad story it had tons of other bad factors that made it a crappy game. The only good thing that it had was its battle system. You can have a good rpg with a weak story you just need to have everything well rounded.

I think you over estimate how stupid the general public has become. Its why rpgs are a dying niche game gerne now.
Have you played Persona 3? One of the best stories I have played in a lonnnnnnnnnnnnng time and I own over 200 rpgs from Nes - ps2 (since xbox and ps3 can't provide a good one yet)

The #1 gaming magazines? Haha! Since when have they reviewed major games badly? Game Informer is a bad source. I subscribe to them but not because of the reviews.

I remember when Game Informer gave Paper Mario 2 a 6.75 because it was "too kiddy". Ever since, I've never cared for their reviews.

Yeah but I kind of agreed, while I liked paper mario 2 it was a bit of a bore at times. the humor was good, replay value was 0. And the pacing was just slow. For instance i have yet to go beyond 5 hours into super paper mario. I'll probably come back to it after the holiday game stunt.

but paper mario isn't a AAA title in my book. Still fails to compart to 7 star. But wait 7 star is too traditional....

Yeah i'm dual rpg'ing with that atm. I'm not sure about the story being that great. It's good so far, but i'm only at like lvl 36 on that tower. Persona 3 is another where the characters and sim/esc interaction really drive the game.

Not saying the story is bad. I just don't see it as its main feature so far. The soundtrack is awesome to. If I were to pick a RPG thats story driven it'd be XenoGears, Star Ocean till the end of time (i know you probably hated it), and Final Fantasy 3 (U.S. 3). These games all had friggin top tier stories.

those are just off the top of my head.

I'm sorry but branching story lines don't necessarily make for a bad plot. Especially when, unless you're on a new game+, you'll have to follow most of the main plot before you have any real chance of finishing the game.

And I don't know about you, but I consider the story to be more than just the plot. The story is everything text based pretty much. The dialog, the character development and interaction, and the plot among other things.

Blue dragon is getting hit just as hard for it's uninteresting characters as for its uninteresting plot.

Lunar is one of my favorite games too, and while it does have a pretty generic overall plot, there's a good number of twists and interesting pieces thrown in, most importantly the characters are interesting, and the dialog is good. So yes, Lunar had a great story by my definition of the word.

Dialog seems to be the only saving grace of the Blue Dragon series, but unless it's Douglas Adams good, I don't see it saving a game with boring characters and a boring plot.

I think Blue Dragon could easily end up a 7 in my book. The type of game I'll buy for $20 from a bargain bin and play through. It doesn't look to be horrible. But this is no outstanding RPG. It won't be terribly memorable, and it won't have me staying up late because I can't seem to put it down. That's my read on the game from the overall reviews.
