Default Anybody else notice that PS3/360 sales are contrary to HD DVD/Blu-ray?

I think its safe to say that the PS3 and Blu-ray are interlated and that the Xbox 360 and HD DVD are interlated, BUT the market is playing out thus far to show 360/Blu-ray leading (in the US).

It seems to me that Blu-ray and the Xbox 360 share a few things in common:

    1. They have dominant software sales compared to their competitors (in the US)
    2. They have the most machines sold and available to play media
    3. They both have the majority of exclusive releases (even with Paramount Blu-ray edges out HD DVD)

On the other hand HD DVD and the PS3 share a few things in common:

    1. They are born from the previous generation's standard format and share the most backward comptibility (HD DVD from manufacturing, PS3 from software to peripherals - sans things like the Guitar Hero controller, etc)
    2. They are both standardized formats that have fewer issues playing media (the core 360 has no hard drive and may cause issues with certain games, or simply won't be able to play certain games)
    3. They are both taking the biggest losses on machines to push them out to the public (360 machines are rumored to start turning a profit now, sans warranty issues)

So, I ask you this then? Why do fanboys use the same arguments to uplift their format of choice, yet downplay the very same argument for the other side?

You can't have your cake and eat it too! If you think HD DVD is going to make a comeback and win because of a reason that it shares in common with the PS3 then you cannot discount the same arguments that you use when they are stated for the PS3.

You see that post on the homepage about a possible 150 stand alone HD player. Xmas = ouch for bluray if that happens.

But the analogy falls apart worldwide (which is really what matters since businesses want to make money period, no matter where they sell their products).

It seems to me that Blu-ray and the Xbox 360 share a few things in common:

    Also you ignore the wii.

    For 360 and Blu-Ray.
    1. They have dominant software sales compared to their competitors (in the US)

The 360 is outsold by their competotor the Wii.

    2. They have the most machines sold and available to play media.

The Wii has outsold the 360. The Wii can play Youtube videos :P

    3. They both have the majority of exclusive releases (even with Paramount Blu-ray edges out HD DVD)

Actually, the PS3 has the majority of exclusive releases over the long-run in terms of tripe-a games. Also the 360 is more like HD-DVD in it has more titles out at the moment because it got a headstart.

On the other hand HD DVD and the PS3 share a few things in common:

    1. They are born from the previous generation's standard format and share the most backward comptibility (HD DVD from manufacturing, PS3 from software to peripherals - sans things like the Guitar Hero controller, etc)

Blu-Ray players are equally compatible to HD-DVD players with older formats. I don't get the point you're making otherwise.

    2. They are both standardized formats that have fewer issues playing media (the core 360 has no hard drive and may cause issues with certain games, or simply won't be able to play certain games)

I just say this is weak, very, very conditional

    3. They are both taking the biggest losses on machines to push them out to the public (360 machines are rumored to start turning a profit now, sans warranty issues)

Sony and Microsoft both are taking losses on their machines. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray both are. This is not an exclusive feature ...

Its kind of a weak analogy tbh.

The PS3 lost big exclusives. Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Katamiri, Vitrtua Fighter, Ace Combat and 2 of those are 360 only.

The 360 has more AAA exclusives.
The only ps3 i want now is Final Fantasy 13.
