The bigger picture should be enlightenment. Just saying. If a game isn't worth it unless you're getting some utterly pointless score from it, then what's the point? You should be getting something out of it yourself. Separate from all the incidental crap...but something that gives you joy.
If you have that, and achievements can supplement that - the good kind of achievements - then great. However, if you solely only care about a title because it adds to some arbitrary score...then who's actually crazy? Those that don't find the importance in achievements and play games for the games. Are those that do, and only play those with them?
I play games for the games. I almost lost my way. But, Assassins Creed broke me. Fuck that series. -

Personally I don't care about trophies or achievements. I have never 'perfected' a game. Some are fun and nice to go after but in general I don't really care. With that said, if Nintendo introduces cheevo system at all, then ALL games should be required to do so. There's 3 platform makers, 2 of them do it across the board. So Nintendo should step up and require it themselves across the board.

and that's not saying GT5 is a bad game by any means.. -

And who made that rule? I play games to relax, tune out from my hectic ass life, and be entertained. That's it. They are an artform in some respects because they can have an impact on my state of mind and my minute-to-minute emotional state (just like films), but they're purely entertainment. They serve no other function to me, and I think the notion that they should is silly.
If I want enlightenment, I'll read a non-fiction book. I have dozens of them on my bookshelf and Kindle that I haven't had time to read yet.
I've never been "enlightened" by a video game - ever. At best, it's just good storytelling with an interactive component.
Having fun in the moment, getting a sense of accomplishment doing something I love and sharing that expeirience with friends who can relate does give me joy. If it didn't, I wouldn't do it.
You're extrapolating something that has nothing to do with me. I don't play games just because of an arbitrary score. The points are not more important than the games to me. But since I have a limited amount of time and I have to make choices and sacrifices with the time I do have, I would rather play great games that have these systems I am invested in, rather than great games that don't have them.
Me too - in both respects. That's why I have Heavy Rain on my PSN Profile with zero trophies. I didn't like the game so I didn't play it, even though it's an easy Platinum.
If the points were more important than the games, my profile would be filled with Wrestling, Leo, and movie tie-in games. Instead, I've just spend nearly 150 hours playing Skyrim and I'm hours away from the Platinum. I could have played probably 10 shitty kids games and gotten a lot more points during that time if they were more important to me than the enjoyment of the game. -

I object to Heavy Rain being an easy platinum. The unskippable credits WILL break you.
I find that many platinums aren't difficult, however, replaying them over and over becomes somewhat a challenge of their own. In that case, that makes MGS4 and Heavy Rain difficult in their own right.Don't Reach, Young Blood

Unfortunately that still leaves 10-15 minutes of time to burn, when you just wanna get back to the main menu and start from another chapter.
I mean, the platinum is 'easy.' If you consider going through a cinematic game 7-8 times an easy task. It is and it isn't, because obviously there isn't a whole lot of skill required to do QTE's...it's a game of Simon Says. The challenge then becomes more about finding the will to go through them.Don't Reach, Young Blood
