I don't see that sliding automatically. It will seem cheap probably because well, it will be cheap, otherwise, Sony won't be able to get a nickel for its grandma. Understandably at this point, since they're going to sink the price to lower levels. Get the current slim as quick as you can, because they will surely put those at $200 or whatever to clear out stock.

Aug 14? I'll be on vacation in EU either coming back that day or just after. So I'll be catching up on news later.
Automatic sliding door or not, I'm not a fan of top load design. Have either the autofeed like it is now or a disk drive that comes out. We'll see more info I guess with timeJose Mourinho, AVB & PDC fanboy - FORCA PORTO!

I wonder if you can keep the disc door open. Like a record, if you die in a game, you can use your finger to rotate the disc backwards and restart right before you died.

No go on my joke? Am I dating myself by even knowing what a record is?

PS3-4000 skips gamescom, 16Gb Flash SKU goes cheap
PS3-4000, the latest, slimmest version of Sony’s current console, will not be announced at the main Sony gamescom press conference on August 14, VG247 has been told.
A gamescom reveal had been planned, but stock levels of the current build are said to be too high for Sony to move onto what is probably the last take on PS3 before PlayStation 4 is announced next year.
In addition, a source today said that the rumoured 16Gb version of PS3-4000 is in fact real, and is based on Flash memory. There was some confusion surrounding the figure, which originated from Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications, with many assuming it was intended to read 160Gb.
The new model will stack up against Microsoft’s 4Gb Flash-based Xbox 360. As the 16Gb PS3-4000 will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage, we’ve been told today that the announcement “may” be accompanied by a huge price cut, with the entry version potentially dropping as low as £99.
We’ve since been told, however, that there are no plans for a £99 PS3.
In addition to the 16Gb version, 250GB and 500GB options have been rumoured.DarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, WiiU) -

I'm not sure how much a 16gb PS3 will do for them. I think that an HD console with a small HDD/SSD is a bad idea even for casuals. I guess they want to be able to compete at the arcade price during the holiday season or something and have an el-cheapo SKU going into the end of the gen. I'd say they're a year or two late on that.

I'm actually in the mood to mod a PS3. When are these supposed to hit the streets? And will we still be able to pop another harddrive in for more storage?
My setup:

42" Vizio 120hz 1080p set

I think for a month or so they could potentially sell a ton. Of course, MS would most likely drop the Arcade sku to the same price. I think they could have dropped the Arcade sku to 99 a long time ago , but figured there was really no reason to since it's competitor was still priced higher than $199.99.
Anyone who buys an arcade or mini-van ps3 for 99 is lame though if it's not a 2nd system. You will need to upgrade the HDD on both pretty soon, so you are better off buying the next level up.Spoiler: -

Totally getting one of those 16gb PS3's. Not joking either. I need a new blu ray player for my TV downstairs and a cheap PS3 sounds perfect. Just need enough memory for a couple games at a time with it.
Although if they drop the price on all PS3's I might just get one of the 320gb and put the older PS3 downstairs. Decisions decisions. -

PS3 is in “prime time,” no price cut coming this year, says Yoshida
What do you think, just typical corporate denial or will there really be no new model or price cut this year?Speaking with Eurogamer at gamescom, Yoshida said with the bevy of titles coming to the system, it was a “great time” for consumers to purchase console.
“We are very happy with where we are in terms of PS3: the services, games, and the pricing included,” Yoshida said. “So, there’s no plan for any change we can talk about.”
Consumers shouldn’t expect a new PS3 model this year either, Yoshida said rumors of the super-slim PS3-4000 were only that: “a rumor.”DarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, WiiU)
