Great quotes on the internet:

That was for things that were otherwise entirely free (Twitter, Facebook). It's laughable that using them is a premium feature... not that anyone wants to. OnLive otherwise costs money and thus is obviously not close to the same thing.
You're thinking more of how you have to have Gold and pay for Netflix to get Netflix on XBL. Which is somewhat bullshit, as would it be if you had to pay for OnLive and PSN+.
Normally free, but Sony/MS makes you get premium service to get it = BS.
Already requires subscription and is otherwise available, but Sony/MS makes you also get premium service to get it = BS.
Already requires subscription and is otherwise available, and Sony/MS asks for no additional money to get it = OK.
Already requires subscription and is otherwise available, and Sony/MS makes you get premium service to get it but waives need for original subscription = OK.
So it's consistent and simple and makes sense; retry.Receiver: Denon 3808CI / Remote: Logitech Harmony 1

Nope, you are wrong. Retry. None of that is what was stated in the past or what Indy just said.
In the past it was ALWAYS BS from you guys because it was only MS doing it. Now that Sony is in the same game...its suddenly ok.
Wait till next gen and paying for PSN is ok too. -

lol
It is just what was stated in the past (the Netflix and Facebook arguments were just as I just summarized them and many times); and it's certainly what he just said now. I mean he literally said if you had to pay for both OnLive and PSN+, then it's BS. If you have to pay for just one then meh. That's we he said.None of that is what was stated in the past or what Indy just said.

I'm not seeing any hypocrisy in Indy's position.
If OnLive games were free with a PSN Plus sub, then yeah, whatever - use it or don't. But it sounds like you would have to pay for a PSN Plus subscription on top of buying or renting games from the OnLive service, which is bullshit. You can already access the OnLive service for free from a PC/Mac, so there is no logistical reason to pay Sony any money to get at that content.
I could understand MS putting Netflix behind a pay wall when they were the first set-top box to have a Netflix app. It was a little gross, but that's business. They had the leverage, so they did it. Now that everything has a Netflix app, this type of business is just shady and outdated. It's clear any service that exists will want to get it's app onto every device possible, so sticking any of it behind a pay wall is dumb since it can be subverted with minimal cost/effort. -

OK then, now that fee is paying for first access to the HBO Go app, Xfinity app and a few dozen other apps.
To look at if from another persepective, what console maker is going to sell you a console (generally a loss-leader) to have you spend hours on the device using services in which they don't see a dime? I know Sony has been doing it, Kaz has hinted at a change in that stratagy, we'll see what happens.
We really don't see Sony jumping out ahead in console sales and when you see stories like the one below, you can see a big investment in digital starting to pay off. Who would have thought this would be the case after blu-ray won?

Netflix pays device makers money for distribution of their app. That's typically how it's done. So they don't not "see a dime."

So you are telling me that people on this board didn't have a problem with Facebook and Twitter being only for Live members? Are you serious? All the sony boys didn't cry about it and claim that it was bullshit that only Gold members could access Facebook? You are so full of shit.

Huh? Of course they/we/etc. did claim it was bullshit. I even wrote so. I even wrote so in this thread like a couple of hours ago.
I specifically wrote:
How much clearer could it be? I mean... here's what just happened. That was for things that were otherwise entirely free (Twitter, Facebook). It's laughable that using them is a premium feature....

Normally free, but Sony/MS makes you get premium service to get it = BS.
Me: X is true.
You: Wait, you're seriously claiming X isn't true?! You are so full of shit!
Me: ???
To summarize yet again:
Normally free + MS makes you pay to access it = BS. (Twitter, Facebook with XBL Gold, etc.)
- Said many times by many "Sony boys." Still true, fully acknowledged in this thread. In no way conflicts with:
Already costs money + MS/Sony makes you pay extra to access it = BS. (Netflix with XBL Gold, OnLive with PSN+, etc.)
- Said many times, fully acknowledged in this thread w.r.t. both Microsoft AND Sony (i.e., when Indy said that would be BS).
Already costs money + MS/Sony does not make you pay extra for it = OK. (E.g., OnLive with free PSN.)

What quotes? I literally don't understand what you're trying to convey, or rather why.
When something costs X normally, and you charge X+Y to pipe it through your box, that's usually BS.
When something costs X normally, and you charge X to pipe it through your box, that's usually OK.
Netflix + Gold = BS.
OnLive + PSN+ = BS.
Facebook + Gold = BS.
Netflix + free PSN = OK.
OnLive + free PSN = OK.
All of this is explicitly written in this thread (and in past threads, but that's not even necessary). So what's the problem?Receiver: Denon 3808CI / Remote: Logitech Harmony 1

Apple doesn't charge me for the Netflix app I have on my iPhone, or the one on my new shiny iPad (fucking love this thing!!!). Roku doesn't charge me for any of the video apps running on my Roku HD in the bedroom. In fact, Panasonic isn't even charging me to stream Netflix, Pandora, Amazon video, Vudu, etc. on the new plasma I bought last month.
So how come MS still gets away with it?
You know full well Sony has been losing money for a lot of reasons. Their business model across the board is out of date and they made a number of bad decisions with the PlayStation brand over the years. Charging people for access to Netflix isn't a good solution to the problem, even if Microsoft does it.
Well, I for one never had any expectations that Sony was going to surpass MS once Blu-ray won the format war. MS already had a dominant foothold with the online gaming crowd and Sony was slow to bring the top tier titles. They waited to long and MS drank their milk shake.
Could they make more money if they charged for online like MS does? Sure. Would I fault them for it? Not really. I get that they need to make money, but it would still be really lame to take all these apps and services that can be accessed elsewhere for free and put them behind a pay wall.
I don't give a fuck who is "winning" anymore. Sony fucked up pretty bad at the beginning of this generation and I wanted to see them admit their mistakes and work to make the PS3 a better platform. They did that. I also wanted to see MS admit the fucked up with RROD and take responsibility for it. They did that. The result? The consoles are pretty close to even in overall sales and the final score between the two when it comes to quality games is a wash. Live Gold is still a better service than PSN Plus for sure (party chat!) but that doesn't mean the value of both hasn't been taken down a few pegs as a lot of these services have come to every other device in the home.
