Well, some of it I get. I mean, putting a big box that says "MOVIE STORE" on it isn't going to generate as many clicks as putting a slide show of new movie titles on it. So I do get why in RRS picture there is a big X-Men First Class picture. I believe that box rotates a series of new movies every few seconds. While that is an ad, i get why MS does it, instead of the "CLICK HERE FOR MOVIES" approach.

I do not like the new GUI on a whole though. I preffered the earlier versions overall. Maybe that's why I also don't like Windows 8. Not a fan of the whole Metro look.

I pay for Cable TV, riddled with ads
I pay for SiriusXM, riddled with ads
I bought a game the other day, WTF why is there a little leaflet in the box for another game?! WTF IS THIS SHIT?! ADSSSSSS!!!!

Yeah you're right. Xbox is so different than the rest of the paid stuff! There shouldn't be any ads! F MS! Everything else I buy and subscribe too doesn't have ads!
It was pointed out in the previous argument that given a breakdown of print revenue, without advertisements print magazines would've ceased to exist 20 years ago; because the vast majority of its circulation costs are footed by subscriptions. There is literally zero profit from subscribers because most magazines print out more than they sell to cover things like retail space.

Nobody complains about trailers because, well without trailers you might not even know some movies exist. So it's kind of necessary to have trailers before a film at the cinema or on-disk. Forcing you to watch them on blu-ray/dvd is and has always been bullshit though.

Here's the thing, cable and satellite is, much like the internet, an expense to provide you a gateway to streams they can't control beyond shutting them off temporarily/permanently. Comcast can't be held accountable for what FOX decides to do with FX or FOX News or any FOX-run channel. When shit is out of your control, there really isn't much you can do beyond shutting something off completely, which would probably mean angry consumers.

And SiriusXM has plenty of ad-free stations you can listen to. You're under no obligation to listen to ad-supported stations.

Microsoft is responsible for everything related to Live. Interface on the 360, advertising, content, etc. So it's not like cable/satellite/the internet where ads are out of their control. They force ads on you. It isn't like SiriusXM where you can choose to use the service ad-free, all ads are mandatory and forced on you. It isn't like movies, none of those ads are relevant to what you use your console for. You can't play WOW on a 360, why would you want to be berated about joining the army, buying shaving cream or a car every chance they get? And it most certainly isn't like magazines which are dependent on ads to survive, considering how live has so many revenue streams, so little upkeep cost and more than enough supporters to keep it afloat for decades. Not to mention an unnecessary rise in cost to the consumer.
    Great quotes on the internet:

I hear Galaxy is brilliant, and it probably is. Just can't picture myself sitting down and playing it. That would take time away from watching the Disney Channel and working on my coloring book.

Kind of a misleading title considering he will still be around...

I posted this in the comments, but a few folks have missed it: I will continue to do the work I have always done, that part will not change. The weekly videos that I used to do with Inside Xbox will unfortunately not continue. I hope that clears things up.

Well I thought his show was getting cancelled, therefore he would no longer be with the company. Kind of how I doubt that Asian chick who did Qore will still be working for Sony after their video game show ended.

I hope he's not as big a tool as he comes off on those shows.

edit: I agree with RRS. Oh and to those apologizing about XBL having ads and making excuses when paying for it, are you kidding me?! The costs for XBL are minimal to non-existent for so shoving ads down peoples throats is not only not necessary but greatly offensive to me.
Sure I can ignore it but I'd rather not see that crap in my face. Yes it is crap and not content(I don't care what a TV show producer says).
HD DVD, the best in extras!

I'm happy to report that Microsoft is moving in the right direction. As of a couple of days ago I notice that the number of system content highlights at any given time has increased from 3 to 5. They split up the ones on the right into two. And there's still the cycling.
