Thread: No more Major Nelson....

Can you 'skip' the big box ad in the middle of your screen on the way to playing your game?
I acknowledge that video ads and box ads are different. My argument, however, is that while they are different in kind - they are not that different in substance. Both are subjecting you to unskippable advertisment in your paid-premium environment. I'm further pointing out that it's illogical to excuse one because you can more easily ignore it than the other.
Someone could just as easily argue that they dont mind a 10 second ad before watching major nelson or something, but they hate all the BS ads on their dash that they can never get rid of and have a hard time ignoring. Maybe that person would further argue that at least the video ad is 'optional' because you can avoid it by not watching the videos while you can never avoid the dashboard ads.
Both are shitty.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

I have no idea what this means. I simply demonstrated that ads hinder you with the dashboard update no matter what. When you're paying for a premium service, whether they put big ads in your face on your way to your game content, or place a short ad spot in front of a video you might view; either way -- you have to view it. Trying to excuse one because you personally can more easily ignore it a silly distinction. They're both in your face, and neither are skippable (which was the difference you tried to assert on the previous page).
There's no stretch at all, as far as I can see.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

I don't understand the defense of the new dashboards tactics. I don't. It sucks.
You'd think this would be easily agreed upon. The facts are slapping you in the face every time you boot up the 360. It's right front of you. There's no ignoring it. In fact, you have to toggle past them most of the time in order to access the content you do want.
It's completely unacceptable for a service that I pay for. I wouldn't complain nearly on the same level if it was free. Which, at this point, given the amount of ads...it should be. -

Yeah, I can skip it, I usually just hit A before I even look at the dashboard. You're mistaking my opinion for a defense. I'm not concerned with "substance" I'm more practical when it comes to ads. Video Games is not a business where the players are swimming in money, they have to do what they have to do. If I can easily ignore it, so be it. If it gets to the point where I'm watching 30 second ads before I play my game or between multiplayer rounds, you can count me on your side. But ads on the dashboard I'm just not going to care about.

How can you skip it? Just pressing A as soon as possible and pretending they aren't there, or are not a part of the dashboard doesn't really solve the problem. However, since you're admitting that it's not an excuse or defense, but instead more practically just your opinion in that 'yea it sucks but i dont see them much because i just rapidly press A to get-in game, so I guess I don't care that much' - I won't contest too much.

It's that I PAY for it. They also INCREASED the rate. The very fact that I'm paying even more to be advertise to is the kicker. I don't understand the apathetic nature toward this. It's one of the very reasons why they seem to do it. Because people are just apathetic towards it. I also don't believe for a second that the defenders will ever change their tune. It gradually gets worse with each new update, and they just gradually get more accustomed to the intrusion. MS is training you.
Tsk tsk tsk.
Its lessening the functionality of the UI is just a side effect. -

I guess the ad's just don't bother me. Not saying they should be there, but I tend to ignore them because I only play games on my 360, so I tend to just hit A once I boot up my system and play whatever is in there. I also tend to use the old interface (hitting the guide button) to navigate around, it's just quicker I feel and I've been using it for 7 years.

Dude no problem, I dont get why the simpletons are so upset by this either.
By the way, your HOA called and - dont worry about it, but they're going to start placing advertisement billboards on your front lawn. It's no big deal though because, while you still owe them the same fees, you can just quickly press your garage door opener button and pull into the garage quickly as usual. If you're fast enough, you probably won't even see the ads.
But to be fair, the moment they start putting brochures under your front door (so you can't skip or ignore the ads) - then I'd be royally pissed!!Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

XBL Gold has always been a paid subscription with ads since I’ve been a member (5+ years).
Was the screen real estate devoted to ads really much better with the blades?

Here’s the boot screen for the previous dash.. no way to start your game, no quick play of recent games.. you had to scroll away..

Seems like the ad argument is overblown.. especially since you can now get to your content more directly with the new dash.DarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, WiiU)
