Really it seems like you wouldn't need a big budget to make a great SH game. The first few had a rather minimalist approach. Goes back to that whole "the best horror is what you don't see" thing.

No one said big budget. Downpour had an incredibly small budget though, a fraction of what most games have to work with.

As for PH in Homecoming, there actually is an incredibly valid reason for him being there. Look it up, I don't feel like writing the entire plot of that entry.

Downpour however, is more like a combination of 1 and Shattered Memories. It's main problem was performance and enemy design being... well, shit. It wasn't optimized for PS3 at all.

Many reviews gave the combat for it negative marks, for being clunky, and old fashioned. Yet, when Homecoming tried to be modern, you were to bad ass. The simple fact is that Survival horror doesn't seem to have much of a place now. If you're not a bad ass Isaac Clarke wanna be, you're not getting high marks anymore. No high marks = no sales. No sales = No more games. No more games = Death of Survival horror.

And no, I don't count RE6 as survival horror. You dual wield.

While I agree, I contend the specific chapter in Dead Space 2 where you go back to the Ishimura is one of the best pieces of horror in games over the last 5 years.

Neither do I. I loved Dead Space 2, but it was an action Horror through and through.

Condemned... oh how I miss that game.

Damn. As I said we get so little info about game budgets I was hoping you had some leaked info or something. I find that stuff a bit interesting.
