Not doing well in Japan at all. PSP is still outselling it.

The PS Vita Has Seen Better Weeks. Now, It Looks Kind of Screwed.
You know things are bad when your old portable is beating your brand new one. This week, Sony's PS Vita sold only 8,931. The PSP sold 14,804 units. The good news, I guess, is that Sony makes both handhelds. The bad? The newly released PS Vita continues to nosedive in Japan. This week it sold less than 10,000.
That's worrying! In comparison, the 3DS moved 72,115 units—not bad for a console that people thought was D.O.A. last year.
Rolling out new hardware is incredibly difficult. The PS Vita, like the 3DS, is an impressive piece of hardware. The 3DS finally has a nice line-up of games to keep players happy—and to entice new 3DS owners. These are growing pains, for sure, and the games are slowly trickling out. But Sony better turn things around, before the rot starts to set in. -

Still lacks a killer app in Japan. The 3DS hit some rough times too prior to its price drop and subsequent releases. E3 will be important for Vita.
That said, just because it isn't doing well in Japan doesn't mean it's not doing better in the U.S., because like I said, the word is that the Vita did over 200k in March.Don't Reach, Young Blood

It's for the best right now. No one seems to be able to do the series justice since the original team broke up. I say let the series lay low until someone comes along with a great take and reboot it with something that knocks everyone's socks off again. I truly think the series can attain the heights it had with 1-3 again but Konami doesn't seem to know how to do that right now.
The tricky part of all this is Konami not just giving up and never revisiting it. -

Silent Hill Downpour was great actually. The problem was with the budget. They couldn't do half the things they wanted to do, or spend the money to re-work the things they realized didn't work. Konami essentially killed that one itself.
Be honest, how many people here actually played downpour?Currently Playing: Chrono Trigger, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Max Payne 3, Legend of Dragoon, Tomb Raider Anniversary HD

I liked the Wii game. It wasn't perfect, but I liked it. I would have love to have seen it expanded and tweaked. It definitely was a nice step in the right direction for "adventure games." Though, I could agree that as a Silent Hill title it was a little weak. Still a solid attempt at a game though. Really dug the idea behind the puzzles.
I won't be buying Downpour until it is cheaper. -

I didnt play downpour, but I am willing to.
But if they took Homecoming's route, I understand why some may consider it a weak title in the series.
After the Silent Hill movie the games tried to incorporate elements from the motion picture and added few more "westernized" elements of horror which can be pretty shallow sometimes and dont fit well to the Silent Hill world.
Each game also had its own set of monsters and threads depending on the character's past and background. But the movie mixed elements from various installments and so did Homecoming.
For example the Pyramid Head's appearance in Homecoming was totally unnecessary, He was a unique character with a special role in 2. In Homecoming he was placed to satisfy the movie crowd or to make it more commercial. We also saw monsters from Silent Hill 2. And those masked dudes from the movie
Konami was a genius with the series. The abnormal didnt have to be so obvious and explicit. The eerie feel of something lurking existed throughout the world. You could feel it even though you couldnt observe the evil directly with your eyes at all times.
You could feel that something disturbing is hidden deep within the town's history, and the monsters werent simply evil boogermen from hell. They conveyed some form of pain, torture and suffering that the town's residents endured or even the main protagonist may endure.
The Silent Hill reboot incorporated some pretty nice elements but killed the original feel with its shallow, fast paced and repetitive elements too.
Which Silent Hill is Downpour more similar to? -

Not buying it until I get get it for $30 or less. My point stand though, the series used to really have an impact on the industry and it simply doesn't anymore. I think it can be that again but Konami needs to wait for someone with great ideas to come along. The series needs to rest for a while.
Really it seems like you wouldn't need a big budget to make a great SH game. The first few had a rather minimalist approach. Goes back to that whole "the best horror is what you don't see" thing.
