Is that Van Damme on Breaking?!?!?!? I had no idea he was in the background of that movie.
Oh, by the way. Sony doesn't want to win Next Gen either.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaud...-4-at-e3-2012/Zero Percent Chance Sony Will Show PlayStation 4 At E3 2012
There’s been a lot of Internet buzz of late regarding an MCV story that states that both Sony and Microsoft will show off PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox at E3 2012 this June in Los Angeles. But according to videogame analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan Securities, that’s not going to happen.
“I think there’s zero chance of a tease from Sony for PlayStation 4 and only a 20 percent chance from Microsoft that they’ll tease the next Xbox,” said Pachter. “Neither console is launching in 2013, so there’s no reason to tease them in 2012.”
Even Nintendo, which is launching its HD Wii U later this year, waited until E3 2011 to show off the device. Nintendo will also have the new console at CES 2012 in Las Vegas January 10-13.
Of the big three, Nintendo is slated to lock in more launch details for its Wii U device, which is expected to offer game developers the ability to offer apps for both the console and the wireless tablet controller through a Nintendo App Store.
Sony, which debuted its PS Vita at E3 2011 and will have the device at CES 2012, has stated that its PlayStation 3 console will have a 10-year life cycle – something it’s replicating with the PS Vita. Sony has been able to keep the PS3 relevant through firmware upgrades that have included 3D functionality and other features. With no launch expected for PlayStation 4 for at least two years, announcing a new console in June while the company is still pushing PS3 games and hardware doesn’t make much sense. After all, gamers know it’s coming.
Microsoft has been riding a high with its Xbox 360. The year that has been targeted by several developers for the launch of its next console (which I hope won’t be called Xbox 720), is 2014. Teasing a device that’s still two years away, and likely wouldn’t have any games available for it by E3, makes little sense. Again, gamers know it’s coming. And Microsoft is still marketing its 360 and Kinect.
While Nintendo’s upgrade to HD graphics (finally) will put its console more in a direct competitive role against Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo has always done things its own way. And what does Sony and Microsoft have to gain by teasing their next consoles. Gamers who want a new console will have only the Wii U as a choice this year. And many of those gamers will likely pick up a PS4 and/or the next Xbox when those devices launch in a couple of years. -

Sure, but it could be just like you describe and the Xbox 3 is the more powerful machine. Or, it could be they are just about even in overall horse power, like I said previously. Flip a coin. *shrug*
To expand further on my previous post, I think third parties are much more integrated into the design process for hardware now. I think if either Sony or MS demo-ed hardware that was behind what their competitor has demo-ed, the third parties would let them know their box is not up to snuff with their plans for the next generation. I think the result will be both Sony and MS pushing to put as much raw power into a $399 box as they can, while also taking the smallest loss on the hardware possible. Even with different architectures, there's only so much either can do given a limited pricepoint, and I don't think either will launch above $399. So I suspect both machines will be very close, just like we saw this generation.
I don't think Sony will wait an extra year to launch and come out with a more powerful box like Microsoft did with the original Xbox. Sony will want to launch the PS4 within 90 days of the Xbox 3. There's a little wiggle room there depending on the architecture, suppliers, shipping, etc. but it's much. -

SCEE vice president James Armstrong (from June):
Not that I put too much stock in any single quote, but until we see some specs, it’s all speculation."It’s hard to say right now.I do not think we’ll have a console with a lot better graphics than the PS3 currently offered.I believe the future will be to offer consumers better and more accessible experience .The aim will be to make more people enter the world of video games and try to design titles for women." Oh imagine that. Trying to go for the casuals. Confirmed, PS4 Titles are going to be designed for Women.
But seriously, of course they are. Wii dominated. 360 Kinect dominates, and now Sony wants a piece of that casual pie. You can't blame him. Only the small minority of "gamers" (I'd say this site is half and half on gamers, the game console smackdown boards that is) think that casual, "gimmicky controls", or games for the unhardcore, aren't a good thing to have.
Sony Move, or something similar will be a huge thing for the PS4 I'm predicting. And I say good. More party games the better. Because there will always be the hardcore games as well. But hey, I'm a family man these days, and I'm in to seeing the ladies and young kids enjoy gaming. -

He the vice-president of the euro branch. As you know, euros are not very manly (evidence: footy) and thus, he is probably just talking about designing games/consoles for that particular market. The last few real men over there will just have to find another hobby I guess.

the wii and kinect beg to differ. move didn't quite take the same route, perhaps why it didn't catch on as well.
focusing on the casuals will hurt the core gamers.
not sure what sony means by "target women".
any stereotypical girl gamer i know that's not casual doesn't want hello kitty games, they're busy with CoD. -

I'd guess (and that's all these are, guesses) that at the very least the majority of gamers think that the shit games that have been released for the Wii and Kinect (and move? haven't followed that one much) are nothing but bad. Even when it comes to casual games that are good, I bet most gamers still don't like them too much.

The hardcore games I'm talking about aren't for Kinect and Wii. What I meant was, as well as casual games for Kinect and Wii, there are hardcore games to be bought for the console as well.
It's the best of all Worlds if you enjoy casual games as well. Like me. I get to play my COD's, BF's, Batmans, Skyrims and then when I want, I can switch over and play games with my lady ie, Kinect Sports 1 and 2. Kinect Adventures, and so on.
I'm not saying that the Kinect or Move games are hardcore themselves. I'm saying there's an OPTION to put in your hardcore game and play after you're done with your casual game playing.
