Xbox 720 to Exceed Current PC Tech
http://www.examiner.com/game-news-in...ok-like-avatarTechnology company AMD, who supplied the graphics hardware for the Xbox 360, claims that the next Xbox will be capable of the level of graphical detail seen in James Cameron's movie Avatar. Even on PC, that kind of technology just isn't here yet, but AMD claims the Xbox 720 will launch with it.
While AMD would not confirm they were actually working on the 360's successor, director of ISV relationships at AMD, Neal Robison, stated that gamers have a lot to excited about.
Robison also mentioned that the A.I. and physics capabilities of the next-gen hardware will allow for every pedestrian in a game such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row to have a totally individual mentality, meaning when you shoot a gun or run someone over they don't all just do the same thing. There will be no more mob mentality, where everyone just screams and runs away; every NPC will actually be an individual character.
Whoa.
Hyperbole aside, I hope this is a good sign that the next xbox won't go the Wii-route like some suspected. -

Sounds like they're looking at a high manufacturing cost during the first couple of years?

So the next Xbox, released in 2 years or whenever, will have tech that's past TODAY'S PC tech? Well fuck, I should hope so. Wake me up when the 720 has tech past what's available at LAUNCH.
LOL, its takes "next-gen" to do THAT? ROFL, seriously? That doesn't sound very next-gen to me....Robison also mentioned that the A.I. and physics capabilities of the next-gen hardware will allow for every pedestrian in a game such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row to have a totally individual mentality, meaning when you shoot a gun or run someone over they don't all just do the same thing. They lost me at "720" … but the only news might be a confirmation that AMD will indeed be providing the graphics card.
Still, the idea that the next consoles will exceed what PC games are doing today is completely reasonable. Avatar movie level though, I don’t think so.DarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, WiiU) -

Exactly, there is absolutely no way that even the beefiest PC you'll be able to get 2 years from now will be able to match Avatar graphics...Those movies are rendered by thousands of PC's and a single frame takes hours, no way you'll be able to do that in real time in a couple of years.
We have probably just reached the power to render Final Fantasy movie in real time (on a beefed up PC) and that's 14 years old. -

Yeah I know, silly really, but most PR speak is.
I knew it wouldn't be long until you came from under your bridge, welcome back troll.
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about in terms of console hardware.
This type of AI would be rather expensive, and wasteful IMO. You don't see AI like this on PC games, so what's there to laugh about?
The Spirits Within? Not even close. We haven't even reached Toy Story graphics real time yet, let alone FF:SW. -

I hear Galaxy is brilliant, and it probably is. Just can't picture myself sitting down and playing it. That would take time away from watching the Disney Channel and working on my coloring book.Ryan Payton (MGS4 Associate Producer) -

The 'more powerful then PCs' claim has been made with every console right from the first Atari and when the console is actually released it turns out to be unpowered compared to a modern PC and that will always be the case.
And yet the claim is believed every time by console fans.
As for the AI claim that's software not hardware. -

The first Playstation was actually very powerful compared to the PC's of its day at launch, and PS2 was no slouch thanks to its massive bandwidth, but definitely not as competitive as the PS1 was. This generation though, the PC's were much more powerful from the start.
