Mark the game Hard Drive required, put a coupon in for $20.00 off the purchase of a new HDD and call it a day. It doesn't have to be hard.

I'd say the fact that L.A. Noire is on 3 discs will (minimally) hurt sales. A 100+ hour JRPG is one thing, a 15-to-20-hour action game? That's different.
No it hasn't. PC games (and certain PS3 games) are optimized for the hard drive, and virtually ALL PC games have variable install-sizes depending on your preference, not to mention once it's installed on the hard drive? You don't need to swap discs or even put a disc in. The 360 has no optional install function, no player-set file-size limit on installs, nothing-- that's the first problem with it; the second problem? On multiple-disc games? You have to install all the data on every disc, so you could easily have a 20+ gb install for a game that only really needed 5; add onto that the fact that MS still feels it needs to sell 250gb hard drives for hundreds of dollars and that it still sells a console configuration WITHOUT a hard drive (or enough memory for an install) and the issues start showing.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice feature to have, but it wasn't very well thought out.Great quotes on the internet:

20 GB installs ok, but how many games are we talking that would require that? A typical Xbox would be able to have 4 large games installed and still have room for other stuff. I do agree what they charge for a hard drive upgrade is absolutely outrageous! PS3 is so much more reasonable in that regard, but it is what it is. BTW... I just did a quick check and you can find a 250GB on sale for $99.

Serious waste of R&D funds if you ask me. WTF is 1 extra GB gonna do? Mass Effect 2 would still be 2 discs. LA Noir would still be 3. Just work on the next gen machine.

Meh. I'm ready for a new gen now. 360 is my favorite console but it's going on 7 years now. Let's get moving. Wouldn't mind facial animations of all games looking as good as la noir

That's not happening any time soon. L.A. Noire is a special case; the amount of time, resources and money spent to get that kind of technology into every game is not realistic, I think that's one of the points [David] Cage made when he talked about the drawbacks of the tech. I love the technology and the results, but it's disappointing that it'll most likely happen in special cases for the time being.
It's like the defense hdinred once made about how thanks to Kinect we'd be seeing limitless interactions in a Kinect-based game like Milo. Hardware was never the issue with that, everything else is.Great quotes on the internet:
