Worldwide console sales thread
I was asked to show how the PS3 outsold the 360 in the past 12 months (before the 360 slim launch) in another thread that got locked, so here's a proper smackdown thread to discuss worldwide sales using official MS and Sony numbers.

All this information comes from a GAF thread that has all the links to the relevant MS/Sony/Nintendo presentations and results:

End of FY2009 is March 31, 2010. As companies release more data, and I find time, I'll update the numbers.
Smackdown: As you can see, NPD and worldwide are very different. -

FYI LTD for the PS3 is 38.1 million not 35.7
Great quotes on the internet:
I hear Galaxy is brilliant, and it probably is. Just can't picture myself sitting down and playing it. That would take time away from watching the Disney Channel and working on my coloring book.Ryan Payton (MGS4 Associate Producer) -

That's with Q1 2010 sales included. I first wanted to have a baseline that closes out 2009 entirely.
Here is worldwide sales for Q1 2010, which is April 1st to June 30th, 2010:
Hardware:
PSP PS2 PS3 360
1.2 1.6 2.4 1.5
Software:
PSP PS2 PS3 360
9.2 3.4 24.8 -
Microsoft did not give a figure for this period, they usually give an attach rate figure which is used to calculate software sales, but they didn't give that info in this period, but hardware wise even the PS2 outsold the 360 in this period.
This is the best we have up until the end of June of this year.

Sweet more numbers we can guess at that are shipped or sold. Welcome to the middle ages again for sales data. It's going to be a cold winter, bundle up.

I wonder how much they will now sell the data for. I assume a site like IGN could make a mint by purchasing that data monthly (assuming it's not massively expensive). They'd have to expand server capacity just for that day as NPD's already tended to flood their site
