@the bolded: Technically speaking, that would be correct. It's not so much the fault of the PS3 as it is with Japan's marketshare being something like 20%. That's not a tiny figure by any stretch of the imagination, but the other two major markets are each 40%. A look at the percentages without seeing the sales numbers may (or may not) make the PS3 look stronger than the 360 depending on the market but I've come to see a platform's commercial strength per region (or even worldwide) as being based on it's raw sales numbers as opposed to a percent of a region. Even if the PS3 or 360 trail the other in sales numbers, that isn't, in and of itself, a sign of weakness as that would be infantile logic at best.
The 360 is in the single digits of marketshare in Japan while it remains very healthy and competitive virtually everywhere else. The PS3 does have healthy Japanese sales coupled with healthy and competitive sales across the globe. I don't necessarily think that it means the 360 is a weak commercial product, as it definitely is not. It's strong, absolutely, though just not as strong as the PS3, commercially. That's a little unfair to say, though, because of the near non-existant adoption in Japan, though.+32in Sanyo Vizon

I'd say we should go by the numbers released by the manufacturers themselves to their shareholders, they can't fake that or they'll go to jail. With those numbers, 360 is about 2 million ahead.

well, some are back to thinking about RROD replacements (being counted in those numbers) to feel better!

This generation is all about co-leading! 2nd place is first loser. -

Which is why sales discussions are somewhat silly. Wii has it all but sealed. Being 2nd and 3rd is hardly anything worth bragging about unless there is some sort of blowout between 2nd and 3rd, which there isnt. Even if there is a blowout; the claimed victory is NOT in the sense that "oh look i'm number 2" - it's just a tiny bit of credibility lent to the idea that the 3rd place console sold poorly. However, the PS3 and 360 aren't in position to be called "poor sellers" by the end of the generation in any meaningful sense.
That leads to one conclusion. If you're a sales fanboy, and you aren't also primarily a wii fanboy; you're without anything to brag about this gen.Currently Playing: Uncharted 3, Zelda: Skyward Sword

It may be "the goldern rule," but the chances of coldfoot being ivan are very very very low. Their styles are totally different. Ivan would never go on and on about how Americans are unsophisticated gun-toting brutes, etc.

Au contraire, I knew asking about someone would surface the accusations of me being them, but asked anyway since I have nothing to fear, because I'm not Ivan and I don't even know who he is. I guess we have to give you guys $5/month to keep up with our advanced thinking
