Yes, but there is a separate thread for it, this thread is based on quarterly figures released by console makers

None of those figures, even NPD, are as complete as quarterly console figures straight from the manufacturers. Even NPD doesn't involve all retailers.
One more time, there are separate threads for NPD and Japan, so specific discussion should be contained in those threads. Also just posting an image without any text explanation is just trying to be clever, since it would appear as that graph meant worldwide sales due to the name of the thread and the lack of any explanation saying that it's NPD on the chart. -

I would like to point out that, unless I missed something, you're the first person to mention Europe or Japan in this thread.
I'll agree with you here. I have no problem with anyone mentioning specific regions in a worldwide thread. As much as it is nice to stay on topic, I've always felt people on both sides have been a bit too touchy on what exactly 'belongs' in a specific thread. But it this case, it belongs quite well, as they are indeed parts of the world, as you stated.
Quite true. In a worldwide thread I'd assume any posted chart would be considered worldwide by default. If that's not the case, it would be best to label it to avoid confusion.
Anyway, barring Move vs Kinect causing a major shift, (which I don't expect to happen) I think it's a pretty safe bet that the PS3 will pass the 360 worldwide, but will never do so in the US. At least not unless it continues selling long after the 360 is taken off shelves. -

I would have thought that the term "worldwide sales" would imply sales from all of the countries of the world. Since we only really get the 3 major ones, USA-Japan-Europe, that it was pretty much implied that the sales figures being touted here are made up of the 3 major sub sections.
Also, this thread was created by Coldfoot in response to the NPD "win" of the 360. The proof also lies in his final line of post #1, where he points out that the picture is different worldwide ( vs NPD). It was kind of like a kid taking his ball home and making up his own game to play by himself so he could generate a win and feel better. -

It wasn't clearly stated in the original post, but to me it seemed pretty certain from the use of financial quarters that these were pulled from companies' respective financial statements. I've used those numbers myself in the past, and they include all sales in all regions. They really are the most accurate numbers you can get in that regard.
I do realize now, that my original post sounded more like an accusation than I intended it. I simply like to point out technicalities.Last edited by BStroms; 10-19-2010 at 08:45 AM.

It's cool. I didn't take it as an accusation or nothing.

Sales: MS and Sony neck and neck worldwide.
That's all this thread is, it to discuss the new Hardware shipment numbers MS and Sony released today for Q2.
For MS: They shipped 2.8 million 360 units. Up by 0.7 million units from last year's Q1 (MS's fiscal year begins on July 1st, so when they are at Q1, Sony and Nintendo are on Q2) shipment. Due in part to the 360's newly redesigned Xbox 360 Slim. This puts their lifetime sales at 44.5 million units sold. Not bad at all.
For Sony: They shipped 3.5 million units. Up by only 0.3 million units from last year's Q2 shipment. Still riding the PS3 Slim's redesign and price drop no doubt. This puts their lifetime sales at 41.6 units. Not bad at all either, especially for a sinking ship.
Oh, the great news, they both trounced Wii's Q2 shipment at a paltry 1.93 million units shipped. The fad is finally over my friends...oh wait, Wii has still sold over 75.90 million units for its lifetime
.
So now for some smackdown, MS is only 2.9 million units ahead from the PS3 overtaking it, and that's with a redesigned console selling very very well. Will kinect be the game changer they want or is it all looking like third place for them again?PSN: AFreak3000

According to Nintendo's numbers, There's been a surge in PS3 sales in Europe throughout September. I wonder if it's move or Fifa that's responsible for that, since Move's been only out there for the last 2 weeks of September.
