Wow, megabomb..
Electronic Arts stuck by Tiger Woods by keeping him as the namesake for its online golf game despite his extramarital dalliances, but consumers did not follow suit, and sales of the new version were only 32 percent of what they were last year during the month after release, according to NPD. After seeing these numbers will Sony create another artificial price drop to balance things out? I just don't see that in the cards.

Don't think they need to. Assuming that supply is good, and demand is consistent, then 300k is nothing to slouch at. It'll probably drop next month, but if bottoms out around 250k for July and August, they will be alright. Presumably, Move and new configurations (I believe 250 GB will become standaard) in September will cause a slight increase, even in the face of what is likely going to be the release of the Arcade Xbox 360 S and Halo reach.

I don't know PS3 slim had high numbers for quite a few month's and I don't see this changing for 360 with it's slim. Remember Sony already released a slim earlier than planned so, a price drop should be Sony's next hardware marketing move. Right now the favor is in 360's court unless Sony makes a off the wall move. Ahh the wonders and fun of tracking gaming.

The PS3 numbers have been a lot lower in past months than I think they should have been, May being the biggest culprit (155k, really?). But seriously, Sony isn't going to win in the U.S., and trying to cut the price when they JUST hit profitability is a bad move. Why should they sacrifice profitability to win by maybe 30,000 units a month? Doesn't seem worth it. It'd be a hollow victory at best.
And Sony released the Slim earlier than planned?Don't Reach, Young Blood

Yeah, I think Sony is going the bundle / more value (ie bigger hard drives) route this fall. They’ll do fine, although I don’t see them winning an NPD this year.
I still think we'll see an xbox price cut at the same time they announce Kinect pricing (when they will also announce a Kinect bundle for $300 or less).
This rumor was from March:
Microsoft to announce Xbox 360 Slim, Xbox 360 price cuts at E3 2010?
Someone close to Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division claims that the price cut will happen some time this summer, and will finally put the Xbox 360 console at US$ 149. It appears that MS is looking to liquidate the remaining "fat" units so they can introduce the slimmer version, which is then said to enter the market at US$ 199. This price tag will further be marked down, however, supposedly as soon as the "fat" ones have been liquidated. SourceDarkRedRain (XBL, PSN, WiiU)

This is correct, Sony had to do a few things they didn't want to do to save the sinking ship. They had to play a couple of cards early something they didn't really want to do. Now, they have to ride out the storm as OnslaughtX has pointed out. You can bet Sony would love to be able to drop the price this Christmas but, they already had to use that card.

Ok seriously, where did you get this notion that Sony had to release the Slim early?
