Default Disney buys Marvel Entertainment

Quote:
Walt Disney says it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing characters like Iron Man and Spider-Man into the Disney family.

Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters.

Disney said Monday that Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own.

It said the boards of Disney and Marvel have both approved the transaction, but it requires an antitrust review and the approval of Marvel shareholders.

hmm...Marvel vs. Disney coming to a PS3/Xbox 360 near you? Would anything be more fun than beating the shit out of Cyclops with Minnie Mouse?

Actually, I was thinking a buddy comedy movie with Wolverine and Goofy. Maybe Donald Duck can get in on that Avengers movie now too.

As much as I'd like to see Goofy beating up on Sabertooth or Doctor Octopus, i hope they don't screw with things too much as far as current/future productions go.

I wish I owned Marvel Stock.

Me too

It was selling for $25 a share back in March. The buy out is $50 a share.

Actually, it's this:

"Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. At closing, the amount of cash and stock will be adjusted if necessary so that the total value of the Disney stock issued as merger consideration based on its trading value at that time is not less than 40% of the total merger consideration."

I'd say, if you had stock in Marvel, that's not too awful a deal.

I'm thinking more like Marvel Kingdom Hearts. Minnie Mouse teamed with Iron Man and Hulk, along with Sephiroth/Cloud and other random characters.

This was all apart of Steve Jobs master plan to get the rights to the X-men so he could rebrand Apple products from "i" to "x-".

I am one of the lucky ones that owned Marvel stock. I sold it all when I saw the news this morning. It is a good day

Default Disney to buy comic book powerhouse Marvel for $4B

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090831/..._entertainment

So I guess once current agreements with other studios expire (Sony for Spider-man, Fox for X-Men), Disney will be making Super Hero movies on their own?

So, what's this going to do with Universal's Islands of Adventure in Orlando? You can't tell me that the Disney is going to want to see characters that they now own over at a competing theme park there....

So this is for all of Marvel?

I wonder what will happen with Marvel Pictures distribution deal with Paramount and also how will this effect the X-Men and Spider-Man film franchises, the film rights to each of those are held by Fox and Sony respectively...
