Looks good. I'll give Cameron the benefit of the doubt until he makes a movie I don't like.

I was fortunate enough to win a ticket to a screening of 15 minutes of Avatar footage on 21st August 2009.

The screening was in 3D, and started out with James Cameron appearing on screen , telling the audience to be sure to put on the 3D specs and welcoming us to the special screening.

He then said, " I know many of you have been waiting a long time for a trailer for Avatar, but we thought we'd do something even more special for World Avatar Day. We are going to show you 15 minutes of footage from the film. Don't worry, they're all from the first half of the movie, so no spoilers.... "

What followed was 15 minutes of the most incredible 3D live action/CGI footage I've ever seen. The 3D and CGI effects were stunning and eye popping, gorgeous colours and heart stopping action. I had actually gone into the screening not having read any of the hype surrounding Avatar, and I had no idea what I was about to see, so for 15 minutes, James Cameron had me on the edge of my seat, and my mouth open in amazement. There were whole scenes that we were treated to that were far more astounding than those included in the trailer that was released that day, and I'll tell you this, I can hardly wait to see the film when it is released !

I left the theatre after the 15 minute screening feeling that I had just experienced something groundbreaking. As soon as I reached home, I googled Avatar and watched the trailer that was released. Take it from me, no matter how good the trailer looks on your pc monitor, the film's visuals are infinitely more breathtaking on big screen and in 3D !

Well I'll likely never see this in 3D as the closest 3D Imax is a fair drive. I hope the movie still holds it's own without that gimmick.

You don't have any Digital Cinema's near you? The film will be playing in 3D DC theaters when it is released.

Only the 15 minute segment was limited to IMAX theaters, and they were really LieMAX theaters because AFAIK - there were no 15/70mm prints shown of AVATAR.

If there's a theater with a digital projector screening general movies in 3D (like Ice Age 3 or Up), then you'll be just fine.

While the IMAX is certainly a nice touch, the most important thing is that you see it in 3D really.

I'm pretty sure the theater I went to was a legit IMAX screen, because the screen was definitely as big as the other legit ones I have gone too. The image could have been blown up though to fit the screen.

Yeah, in order to experience the real deal, you must see it at the 6 story IMAX.

How much did AVATAR cost? Did Cameron continue with his history of making the most expensive movies to date. Like with Terminator 2 and Titanic, which were the most expensive movies in history when they were released.
    = 448 (55.1%)
    = 365 (44.9%)
Last : Glory (Mastered in 4K)
Last : P2: A New Level Of Terror
    Media Players: S5100 x2, Roku3, PCH-A400 x2, BDT-220, NTV550, Boxee Box x3, Roku2 x2, PCH-C200, Xbox360 slim x3, PS3
    Gaming Systems: XBOX360 slim x3

$237M is the production budget. Definitely not the most expensive budgeted movie. But it is in the top 5:

It will be released as a 2.39 AR movie and none of the footage uses IMAX cameras so it will be "letterboxed" on a IMAX screen.

I'm going by the specs, and what my friend has told me; he's a top dog on the project, so............

I'm just lucky that I have access to several TRUE IMAX screens in my area.

I'll be seeing it in IMAX lite at AMC.

Which is still much better than the regular theater with a film projector.

Yeah it's not the most expensive. Especially if you know the real costs of some of those films listed, which based even just on the ones I know...puts Avatar out of the top five (assuming the $237M is correct).

A new trailer should be attached to Amelia, The Vampire's Assistant, Saw VI, and Paranormal Activity. What I hear is that theaters received the trailer and are free to show attach to films of their choosing. So basically, the new releases. And here's a bootleg if you don't mind, but I expect (hope) this will be available on Apple tomorrow

I haven't watched it yet but I've heard nothing but good things about this trailer, as opposed to the mixed reception of the teaser.
