I'm 90% sure the actors were emotion captured.
The people look wwwwwwaaaaayyyy to real to be anything but real people. The imperfections of the skin. If that's CG...I'm impressed.

    I await your friends response.

How can they look..........real? They don't exist. If you mean the texture of the skin looking like flesh, then yes it looks real. All the internet hater-aide in the world can't change that.

No one is referring to the Blue Avatars. We are discussing the people.

Looks different then what I imagined. The environments are beautiful. I just don't know what to think of the Navi appearance.

The humans are...well, humans. That's live action. The film does in fact use extensive motion capture...but that's for the aliens.

I was confused with the some of the other posts. I thought otherwise until I read some of the comments. It was fucking with me because if that were to be the case then that's just amazing.

    Here's his response.

humans are a mix of digidoubles and real people. if we did it right you won't be able to tell which is which.

the movie was shot as a hybrid between simulcam and our virtual cinema process. simulcam is all digital stereo for live action with cg elements comped in. there are very few shots in this movie that are completely 100% real.

I thought that might have been the case. A few of the humans in the trailer are CGI while most are actually human...that's pretty awesome to mix them like that.
