I saw this last night and yet again all the hype could not diminish this fantastic film, Bravo to everyone involved!!

I cant remember the last time I saw back to back movies that were this damn good (the other being D9). These two films have saved the season for me..

    Exactly how I felt.

And then I threw (500) Days of Summer in there and it was a trifecta.

I went to a matinee showing of Inglourious Basterds today. To say this is now one of my favorite movies is an understatement! This is Tarentino's finest movie so far. Pulp Fiction was just a warmup by comparison (and I love Pulp Fiction). Tarentino's masterful use of the spoken word to build suspense and tension is unparalleled here. The camera angles are a masterstroke. And, to top it off, we get Oscar-worthy performances all around. Brad Pitt is magnificent. Mélanie Laurent is sensational (and OHHHHH so sexy in that red dress and red lipstick!!). And Christoph Waltz is phenomenal. I'm not sure if Waltz should get the Oscar for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, or both. He was that good!

Unless something unexpected happens in the next 3 months, Inglourious Basterds will rule the Academy Awards. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and perhaps one of the Best Actresses categories. Best Costume Design and Best Writing - Original Screenplay are likely here too.

This movie was simply brilliant! Suspenseful, dramatic, humorous, violent and highly engrossing! The 2.5 hours went by like it was 1 hour. I could have walked right back in and watched it again and I know I'd have enjoyed it just as much.

This is one movie where I may end up violating my own rule on how much I'll spend for a Blu-ray! I'm probably going to end up getting this on the day it is released on Blu and that will probably mean I'll have to pay over $20 for the privilege.

    Mark

    P.S. I really liked it!

I agree, IGB might get several nominations.

    Just like Pulp Fiction.

Well, there's still a lot of Oscar potential films to come out, but I'd say that nominations for Director, Supporting Actor, and Best Picture are a lock at this point. Probably Original Screenplay as well

With ten nominations this year I'd also say that a Best Picture nod is a lock. Best supporting actor is certain as well, in fact unless another extraordinary performance emerges I'd really like to see Christophe Waltz win it.
Best director and original screenplay are really up in the air, depending on the overall quality of the year. I don't consider this to be among Tarantino's better films but maybe his fellow directors and writers will feel otherwise.

The original screenplay category is always lacking these days. Adapted is where its at it seems.
