I hope this does not disappoint - I must say I have not been pleasantly pleased with the movies I had huge expectations for in the last year - 3 for 3 - Dark Knight, Watchman & Star Trek.
Cameron has great rep though - hope he does not do a "George Lucas" since he has put out a theatrical release in a while. -

I was referring to Beowulf and The Polar Express from a technological standpoint. As in, realistic 3D CGI animated models. Granted, I understand the concerns that Cameron hasn't done very many films this decade really at all, but yeah Titanic wasn't an action film, and his last one before that was True Lies which was great. Aside from that, there's only been documentary projects. But he hasn't been in a slump, more so, not making a film. But Avatar has been the movie Cameron has been wanting to make for a long time, and this guy is a great director. Er, was, whatever you want to call it. Titanic, while cheesy, isn't bad at all either.
You look at Watchmen and I think plenty of people were a bit skeptical of Zack Snyder's directorial abilities, and I think it's safe to say our concerns weren't unfounded. But this is James Cameron, the man who made Aliens, T1 and T2. So I get excited naturally. You don't have to jump on the hype train, but I wouldn't say it's wrong for us to hype it.Don't Reach, Young Blood

I knew what you were refering to when you referenced beowulf and polar express.... hence me saying that polar express looked like the characters were dead behind the eyes and had a somewhat unrealistic movement. I can agree Cameron is a very good director, some of his movies are my personal favs. But, with that said, there have been many great directors that have made crappy movies. I don't think Cameron is above that either. for the record I didn't say it was wrong for you to be excited, I just didn't understand the extreme hype being thrown out there about something only a few people have seen in action and the story may or may not be something that isn't even close to original. Not everything has to be a CGI orgasm. Sure transformers was amazing to look at but the story/acting/everything else was subpar. I'm not comparing Avatar to Transformers, but you have to see the correlation I'm trying to make. Just because something looks great on screen doesn't make it a good movie.
I trust that Cameron has a good story and the movie will be fantastic, I just don't want to get over hyped about a movie where there is the possibility that substance could be sacrificed for style.

The inclusion of cutting edge tech, Signourney Weaver, and James Cameron has me expecting something truly great.

Yeah, I was gonna say, Piranha came first, but I think given the circumstances, it was a lose-lose situation.

The $237 million production is not as expensive as some 2-D fare such as "Spider-Man 3" (2007), which was made for $258 million. But it blows away "Monsters vs. Aliens" (2009), a 3-D animation movie made for $175 million.

Comic-Con 09: Avatar’s epic battle climax
Expect the biggest action scene ever, says Cameron...
http://www.totalfilm.com/news/comic-...-RSS&attr=newsBY Jonathon Crocker Jul 25th 2009
You thought Titanic was big? Forget it. Avatar packs a climactic final battle sequence that’ll blow it out of the water, says James Cameron.
“There’s a couple of battles scenes towards the end, the last of which is kind of the mother of all battles,” revealed Cameron to Total Film.
How big are we talking? “Biggest thing I’ve ever done, absolutely,” he explains. “It’s got everything. Everything. It’s aerial, it’s ground, it’s cavalry, it’s infantry, it’s mech and infantry, it’s hand-to-hand, it’s gonzo...”
And it’s in 3D. We’re going to lie down for a little while to imagine that. Stick close to TotalFilm.com for all latest Avatar updates... -
