Default Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) U.S.

Resident Evil: Degeneration U.S. Screening Dates
Source:Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
October 1, 2008

Quote:
Seven years after the destruction of Raccoon City, Leon and Claire are back as the war against the zombies rages on in Resident Evil: Degeneration, a co-production of Capcom Co., Ltd. and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. based on the popular video game franchise.

Making its worldwide theatrical debut in Japan on October 18, 2008, Resident Evil: Degeneration will be screened in the U.S. at the New York City Horror Film Festival on November 13th and at a screening in Los Angeles on November 18th hosted by Fangoria (full details forthcoming).

Produced by renown gaming producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi and directed by Makoto Kamiya (exclusive interview), Resident Evil: Degeneration is a CG-animated feature film that takes the terrifying zombie action of the blockbuster Resident Evil franchise to a whole new level with jaw-dropping visual effects and heart-pounding suspense.

The "Umbrella Incident" that took place in Raccoon City ended with a missile attack ordered by the government intended to wipe out the deadly zombie virus. Following this catastrophe, the Umbrella Corporation’s stock plummeted, bankrupting the business giant. Seven years later, at an airport in the Heartland of America, a commercial airliner unwittingly delivers some deadly cargo. Now, in an airport beginning to fill with the undead, the horrific disaster is about to repeat itself.

We're talking about a movie are we not? There is a trillagy is there not? this trillagy has it's consitant story element?

I know what you're trying to say regarding the resident evil stories in the games v. movies (which the movies did a half way decent job of loosly following the games until extinction), but some movie producer somewhere decided to change that with extinction. Now the stories branch like a tree, you have the movie stories and the game story.

In the movies the world is destroyed by a t-virus outbreak that happens somewhere somehow, in the games umbrella is destroyed along with the t-virus and now we're fighting las plagas in 4 & upcoming 5.

Hmmm, sounded like it could be though... The T-Virus had to get out and infect the entire world somehow between Apocolyps and Extinction, and rackoon city was nucked, cleaning that entire infection zone. I guess I always assumed something escaped prior to the bomb going off, but my thoughts reading this turned to maybe not. Maybe the virus got out some other way.

I've never ever considered The RE Films Canon. They are freaking terrible.

This CGI Film is only suppose to connect RE 2 to the later entries...Code Veronica and RE 4.

I'm 90% sure this has no ties to the film series. This takes place 7 years after the Raccoon City event, so it's obviously more of a direct sequel to Code Veronica and RE2 (hence why Leon and Claire know each other...Leon wasn't in Extinction, right?). Also, I believe this was done closely with Capcom, so I'm sure they're intending to cater most importantly to the Japanese audience, so they're tying it to the series.

There was a brief preview for this on Playstation Network right after E3. It looks pretty good.

Leon wasn't in the movie series at all to this point, they opted to include Carlos instead who was a bigger character in RE: 3 on which the second movie was based. I can't remember whether they even referenced leon (or claire for that matter) at all. Movie 2 had Jill and Carlos which made sence, movie 3 retained Carlos (who dies this time around) and Jill is no where to be found (presumably dead or otherwise not with the group).

So I'm not sure what if anything Claire and Leon being in movie 4 says. It's possible that this movie is completely disconnected from the rest of the movie series but to me that feels like a bad move on the part of the producers (and capcom). The movies do diverge from accepted game cannon, but the fact is they sold well (well enough to warrent a 4th) and the fact is you can't go back in time and undo them as much as some pureists may want to. Personally I liked all 3 for what they were, I think they actually did a relitivly good job following game cannon up until the 3rd flick, which I ended up enjoying anyhow.

The big differences i can think of is the imporantace of this alice character, and her ever growing in power after umbrella experiment after umbrella experiment. But hey, personally I like the alice character, so I'm ok with that.

I am 99% certain that the animated film has nothing to do with the existing trilogy, since that is what they said when this was first announced. It may have some elements that overlap, but no direct connection.

Batman did. It worked out pretty well for them.

Anyway, I'm a huge RE fan, and I hated the films. I hated them. In no way do they represent the series in a respectable form.

In what way did any batman series so this? There were the keeton movies, then once he and burton were out that series was done, what followed was a series of mostly disconnected batman films... Now we're on Nolan's series, the only real change was the actress for Rachel Dawes, and that was only done because katie holmes stupidly refused to be a part of dark knight, there was no choice to go on with out her.

With resident evil, it's going to be tough to move ahead with a disconnected movie depending upon the events of the first 2 movies, which by definition this movie does in fact depend upon those events happening.

I think you're looking way too hard into this. It's just a DVD release meant to shed some light on the game canon and is in no way a reboot and Sony will probably produce a 4th film for Alice's story.

I think what he means is... with batman, WB Ran the series in to the ground and luckily we've been taken back to a darker meaner batman

But what the poster forgets is the amount of time that passed before Batman made a come back.

There's nothing to say that the Resident Evil series couldn't have a paralell story running... sooooooo While all the crap was going down in the first movie... we could end up on the streets of Raccoon City with a whole bunch of new characters going in a completely seperate direction from the main cast....

Who's to say Ali Larter couldn't begin that franchise?
