The Paul Anderson films don't take place in the same continuity as the games. It wouldn't make sense, because RE: Apocalypse contradicts the hell out of RE 2 and 3. The first Resident Evil movie was made sort of like a prequel to the first game, but not specifically and wasn't intended to be part of the actual Resident Evil storylines from the games.

Personally, I enjoyed the first and third Resident Evil movies (I thought Apocalypse was total crap though) but they rarely recreate the style and tone of the games.

It's basically an official entry in the game series' plot, taking place sometime after RE4 and it has both Leon and Claire re-united after 6+ years.

It's on my list. Last RE related purchase for me possibly.

Oh, lookee here! It's another stocking stuffer for me!

On a side note, in the wake of actor's strikes and the increasing cost of stars' salaries (along with ridiculous contract riders and egos) and the ever more impressive and cheaper CGI abilities, I predict in about ten years we'll see studios moving toward exclusively CGI movies. They'll have a stable of studio owned CGI "actors" whom they don't have to pay and whose egos they won't have to contend with.

Just think of all the lame election year Oscar speeches we'll no longer have to endure!

I checked on Release dates for this film and so far its end of December this year with Japan getting it at the end of this month (October)..

Tech Specs were the Video will be presented in "1.78:1 1080p AVC" with a "5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack... Sounds good to me soo far..

EDIT: What do you know, HDD just posted an article entitled RE: Degeneration to Hit Bl-Ray on Dec 30 2008..

I doubt it- I don't think people will accept not seeing movies with real actors. I remember some filmmakers bragging that their film was a launching point to replacing real actors with realistic looking CGI to expand what can be done in movies.
That movie was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, and we all know how that turned out.

For me, what killed the movies was the genre shift from survival horror to action. I mean, how threatening is a monster if you can beat it down with your bare hands?

It was Final Fantasy's story and execution that dragged it down, not the CGI. I still like it, but it was more flash than substance. It's been seven years, so I think they could make a pretty good movie today; if the story is there.

The real clincher for me with Degeration is how well it's adapted for western audiences (if at all). Even with good dubbing, there may be too many Japan-isms that draw you out of the experience. (MGS4, I'm looking at you!)

I'll take Japan-isms over American-isms any day. The fact that the movie follows the plot of the games is reason enough for me to be interested. I never could get into the previous live action movies. From the point where Alice jump kicked a zombie dog in the first movie, I knew it would be all downhill from there.

Good God! I've been waiting ages for this. I haven't really seen any info on this film, except one lousy trailer. Instant blind-buy.
I wonder if the US/interantional release will feature an english dub, and it had better include the original too =)

Dec 30th? Why not a few weeks earlier to get the Christmas rush?

Actually the Resident Evil movies are great! don't know what you are talking about.

If you are a fan of Uwe Boll films, maybe you would hate RE films because they have a plot, good acting and great effects.

Anyway my main complaint is that Sony Home Video has started to raise the list price of BD movies released. People need to speak up!! as Fox and MGM are lowering the price of their discs, the other studios need to learn that discs ought to be under $30 list price, with the rare exception at $35, $40 is just too damned much!
