Arrow in the Head reports that Dimension is moving forward with a sequel to Rob Zombie's "Halloween" without the helmer's involvement.
Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, who were attached to the "Hellraiser" remake, have confirmed themselves as the co-directors. Maury tells Rue Morgue Magazine that "Our vision will be done with the utmost respect, with a continuity to Zombie's work. But also a real evolution of the world he set in place." The original "Halloween" sequel was set mostly around a hospital, no word on where this sequel will take place. Well, these are the guys that did "Inside", so we'll see. Hopefully they won't abandon the project like they did Hellraiser. I remember when Zombie said that the film was a one shot. Looks like Moustapha Akkad's kids are taking over and will milk the shit out of their franchise. *shrugs* |

Wow. I remember Zombie saying he was getting into movie-making because everyone steals music, and he couldn't make a living off of it anymore. I don't understand why he isn't doing the sequel then.

Well, damn 'Inside' was insane. If they bring even half of that intensity to the sequel I'm there.

If that's true, then maybe he should concentrate on the making the type of music he made with White Zombie up until "Hellbilly Delux"... Music that sounded "tough" and Guteral... that last atrosity he made "Horses" sounded like he immitated Alice Cooper in voice the whole time... I was floored... I consider myself one of the Biggest RobZombie music lovers out there, and I'm like "You're NOT Alice Cooper your Rob Zombie!!! Sound like it!!"

Good, they should be rid of him after the disaster he made. If there is a hell, he's earned a one-way ticket for committing the ultimate sin, ruining a true classic.
He needs to stick to music because film-wise, he makes complete bastardized garbage! |

I liked Devil's Rejects, but house of 1000 corpses sucked.

fully agree, the remake does not make me like the original any less, and it is better then some of the sequels.

As part of the canon . . , not only do I disagree with that, but it's also a matter of opinion. The film is drastically different from the franchise to be included as an extension of the series IMO. Also, Zombie has admitted that his version is not part of the franchise, but a reimagining of the original to fit his vision of Michael Myers. *THE FOLLOWING MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! DO NOT READ FURTHER UNLESS YOU'VE WATCHED THE FILM!* The biggest, and most obvious, mistake Zombie made was removing the scare factor, the haunting appearance of "The Figure". This is ruined by the fact that we are shown too much information about Michael Myers, which creates more compassion for the character than a fearful creature of madness. Added to that, we are also given an origin story that explains the killer's quest (Myers comes from an abusive environment and bullied as a child), thus creating more compassion than fear. On the surface, these points might appear the same but are actually differentiated in the film by scenes of the hospital being separate from scenes of Myers's home-life. In the original film, being ignorant of this information creates fear in the audience because nothing can explain The Figure's purpose, there's no rhyme or reason behind his actions. The only glimpse we are given of his home-life is a scene at the beginning showing a normal family living a normal life. This adds to the terror of The Figure because it expands on the fact that we have no explanation for his madness. He is simply an unknown figure hiding in the shadows patiently for the time to strike -- a patience that is terrifying in itself because the film is mostly enshrouded in dark shadows and haunting blues. Although there are other more technical reasons for why Zombie's film is inferior to its predecessor, the above is the clearest example as well as the most distinctive. In the remake, there is nothing to fear in a Michael Myers photographed with lots of light and color and with an absurd sympathy for his madness and rage. Zombie introduces a vastly different Michael Myers to a new and younger audience possibly not familiar with the original and with little semblance to Carpenter's creation outside the mask. The classic, of course, still retains its superiority and Zombie's vision ultimately fails as a movie. Of course, this is just my opinion and anyone is welcomed to disagree. But I will say this, of the three films thus far, The Devil's Rejects is best and entertaining but still lacks in certain aspects. And as a preemptive strike, I will also add that the Friday the 13th remake will also be complete garbage. Unless the filmmakers can really pull it off, it is stupidly ridiculous to not only have Jason Voorhees appear in the first film but also to make him run rather than walk after his prey. I really hope they don't screw this up!Last edited by eNoize : 09-01-2008 at 03:58 PM. |

I always thought the original series was incredibly boring so i enjoyed the Zombie version better. I hope they carry on in that vein.

I can appreciate what Zombie tried to do with the character but I agree with ENoize...The scare factor was gone which I believe is what a Michael Myers flick is all about.

If they do it I hope they get Tyler Mane for the shape again.
