Thumbs up Disel Promises 2 More Riddick Movies

www.rottentomatoes.com

Cant wait!

Quote:
Four years after his character Richard B. Riddick last graced the silver screen, and some years after telling reporters that there would be another Riddick film in his future, Vin Diesel told MTV News that he no longer thinks there will one day be a Riddick sequel.

He now thinks there will be two.

“David Twowy right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind,” he said of Riddick, the Furyan warrior first introduced in the 2000 film “Pitch Black.” “‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ was presented as a three part trilogy that would answer ‘Pitch Black’ in the same way that ‘Lord of the Rings’ answered ‘The Hobbit.’”

Those are lofty goals indeed for a movie that was very poorly received when it opened in 2004, and had a mediocre performance at the domestic box-office (where it made just $57 million). Diesel, though, is undaunted, insisting that the long space between sequels has nothing to do with convincing others to get on board, and everything to do with wanting to get it right. (To be fair, “Riddick” performed well overseas, and also spawned a best-selling video game which many considered to be better than the movie.)

“Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and I’m always working on it,” Diesel asserted. “It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precious about it.”

So where will Riddick go next? After taking the throne of the Necromonger King at the end of the last chapter, is there any doubt?

“Sooner or later we all end up in the Underverse,” he said of where we can expect the next chapter to take place, adding in a Riddick-like voice, “Sooner or later.”

There's been talks of two sequels since 2006, here is the full interview http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2008/08/25...ddick-sequels/ In 2007 two titles and storylines were mentioned Passage to the Underverse and the final chapter Return to Furya. Both sound very good, I hope they are major big budget theatrical releases.

They are comming. At least one of them and possibly both of them are featured in the Universal inserts. I would say in the next few months or so.

Will these be sequels or prequels? I can't see Vin as the new ruler sending his army to take over other planets. Vin's in Fast and the Furious 4, and it looks like he'll also be back for XXX3. He comin' home.

Riddick movies are the exception to my Vin Ire.... I admit he does well in those flicks, though I much prefer Chronicals to Pitch Black on a personal level.

Looking forward to these. I liked Chronicles, but no where near as much as I liked Pitch Black. One of my favorite Sci Fi movies.

+1. I am glad you mentioned Dark Fury because DF is after Pitchblack and Before TCR. Riddick it's already a trilogy. They should make it as a BD pack.

And if you want to get even more technical, that Riddick video game from Vivendi is the prequel to Pitch Black the film.

It's Riddick on that prison planet before he was captured and shipped in PB.

Sweet. I love 'Chronicles of Riddick' and 'Pitch Black'.

I also loved the Video game that precedes 'Pitch Black' called 'The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay'

I am not sure that Dark Fury would benifet from a BD presentation. Too bad. I love these flicks.

Technically, has Diesel really flopped at the box office? I mean babylon A.D might but other than that has he flopped? Riddick did alright didnt it?

I mean he did very well with Pacifier and Fast and The Furious 4 is guaranteed to do solid as usual. I think Diesel can be a very good actor and I honestly have enjoyed him in alot of flicks. His best work though has probably been seen by few, Find Me guilty and Boiler Room.
