Default The Wire

anybody here have the wire seasons on dvd?

If so did anybody notice if the video quality on season 4 is worse than the other seasons?

I recently bought season 5 at best buy, but I bought seasons 1-4 through amazon from a marketplace seller

I might be paranoid but it seems the season 4 discs are copied versions although the whole package looks exactly like the legit versions, ie the dvd cases etc, but the video quality of season 4 is just so bad..

Also is it weird when I booted up 2 dvd's from two diff seasons it would start in the middle of a episode as if I stopped at that point?

Anybody with these seasons on dvd help please.

I'm just hoping the video transfer or w/e is just bad for season 4

thanks

to clarify the colors look off and it's the scenes are too dark, but the other seasons look fine...

I love this show!

I just watched the entire final season (5) this past weekend. A tear rolled down my eye afterwards.

Fuck, this series will get bought once they hit BD, you best believe that.

I haven't gotten any of the DVD's.

I wonder what the special features are like on the sets? I've heard amazing stories from the crew that worked on it. Oh man!!! They are some funny guys.

This boycott was started out of respect for the artist. As we all know...Sony or MM don't have any.

hey I just checked out the dvds and yeah seasons 1 to 3 seemed to of progressed with 4 being the best i've seen it look. I do know that the show is always suppose to have that gritty look since its what the creators intended. Not sure what to tell ya

Also, from what i'm told David Simon was offered to shoot the last two seasons of The Wire in HD but declined because he wanted to keep them all looking similar. So I dunno doubt we'd see these on blu. who knows

hmm thats really weird

I contaced the marketplace seller and they said they got it directly from amazon on their corporate account.

maybe I got a bad batch or something

I swear season 4 looks the worst, it's not just the grittiness, there's way more film grain =\

thanks for checking

Naw.

I'm talking some of the crap the crew had to go through when making the film.

I was talking to a guy that was the medic for the show. He's an awesome guy...and freaking hilarious. Anyway, he was telling me that one night they were filming a shoot out on one side of the street, and a real shoot out has happening on the other.

He was also telling me about a time he had to patch up a random person who wandered onto the set...with a gunshot wound.

No and dont expet it anytime soon if ever. This show was never shot in HD...The show was shown on HBOHD using a line doubler that increased the quality of the picture.

Simon has stated that he decided not to go to the HD 16:9 format to keep the show linear throughout the 5 seasons. I kind of understand where he is coming from as the show definitely has a certain look to it. I have a feeling much like "The Shield" this show was shot in 16:9, but framed for a 4:3 picture. If they expanded the shot to 16:9 it might ruin the "feel" of some of the scenes. If you have seen the comparison shots of the 16:9 Shield and 4:3 Shield, you can see that some of the feel of the shots was lost.

While I would love to have it in HD, I do not have any of my hopes up due to the past interviews. This show is one of the best ever hands down and recently I have been getting many people hooked.
