Default Writing Begins for The Hobbit Films

Looks like there seems to be two release dates as well. December 2011 and December 2012 are the target dates. Here's the link http://www.comingsoon.net/news/hobbitnews.php?id=48093

Nice find. Can't believe how long the wait for this movie is going to be. And then, when it finally gets here, you have to wait another 2 hours just to finally see Smaug!! LOL!

Christmas 2013 when the Blu-ray Ultimate Complete LOTR Gift Set comes out, I'll be in my 50s. Very long wait but until then I am sure we can look forward to at least two LOTR collections on BD.

The only characters in LOTR i didn't like were the hobbits so i'll likely not watch the new ones.
They're just so damned huggy -kissy.

Maybe they can jump on the bed for twenty minutes like they did in the final installment of LOTR.

It's about 1 Hobbit, Gandalf and a bunch of Dwarves.

Lord of the Rings was too big to fit into three movies (although they gave it a damn good try)

But The Hobbit is so small I would imagine they would struggle to make it one movie. How on Earth are they going to format this to spread it across two?

Damn, I'll be about 35-36 when I'm finally able to watch the BD at home.

As I understand it, from reading various comments online (here's a 20 questions thing Jackson/Del Toro did a few months back, I think it get mentioned in there) the 1st film is going to be The Hobbit, and the 2nd film is going to be set between that & the start of Fellowship & be based on what Tolkien wrote that's set in that time frame.

Oh, here's a relevant answer from that link

[question] 2 - Hello Mr. Jackson and Mr. Del Toro! Thank you very much for this time. My question is one that I think you will hear alot of from many of us...from what material will you pulling the second movie from? I know it'll be great with you two on board, but I am mighty curious. I am a huge fan of both of you and I look foward to more Tolkien films!

Guillermo del Toro The idea is to find a compelling way to join THE HOBBIT and FELLOWSHIP and enhance the 5 films both visually an in their Cosmology. There’s omissions and material enough in the available, licensed material to attempt this. The agreement is, however, that the second film must be relevant and emotionally strong enough to be brought to life but that we must try and contain the HOBBIT in a single film.

Peter Jackson I'm really looking forward to developing Film Two. It gives us a freedom that we haven't really had on our Tolkien journey. Some of you may well say that's a good thing of course! The Hobbit is interesting in how Tolkien created a feeling of dangerous events unfolding, which preoccupy Gandalf. There's an awful lot of incident that happens during that 60 year gap. At this stage, we're not imagining a film that literally covers 60 years, like a bio-pic or documentary. We would figure out what happens during that 60 years, and choose one short section of time to drop in and dramatise for the screen. I'm really interested in how it effects The Hobbit - do we show what happens to Gandalg during his trips away? We'll see. We may well have seeds for Film Two that we'll subtly sow during The Hobbit.
It's an interesting read if you're into LOTR/The Hobbit & have some time to spare.

1st movie is The Hobbit. 2nd movie (unnamed at this time) is an all new IP (made up by Walsh, Del Toro, and Jackson) that bridges the 40-60 years between The Hobbit and The Fellowship. The 2nd movie is where we might actually see the characters from the LOTR Trilogy reprising their roles.

A good read:

Cheers Thanks to Favell too

That actually makes me feel much much better. I was worried they were trying to drag it out over two movies which didnt make any sense to me. "like butter spread too thin over bread"

I should have had more faith in Jackson and co

For some reason I thought you were in your early 20's.

EDIT: Just checked your profile and it says you are 17.
