Default The "Mirrors" thread

Okay, it came in #4 with over 11 mil, not bad for a hardcore R rating horror flick.

Man, I loved it, some scenes were dumb, in terms of relying on cg when practical fx would work much better (

The Amy Smart "jaw rip" will go down in horror history for how fucking HARDCORE it was,
men/women were screaming in the packed theater where I saw it last night.

I like seeing Kiefer sutherland do his thing. I hope he makes more films where he's the star and not the supporting actor aside from 24.

I also hope they release an UNRATED cut of this. Alexandre Aja has a great track record releasing his films unrated on dvd.

All I know is that if he's not biting through someone's jugular @ an 8 o'clock time slot Kiefer's just not 'doing his thing'

I agree with you Cheez on the one scene that will surely go down in cinema gore history but to be honest, as great as it was, it felt out of place in the movie. If you take away the opening scene and the aforementioned scene, it was actually a pretty tame ghost story. My biggest problem with the flick was the story. It never drew me in, and it felt like they were making it up as the went along. There's a terrifying movie to be made about mirrors (they are actually VERY creepy when you think about it), but this wasn't it unfortunately.

Maybe a longer cut (excuse the pun) will be released on BD? More exposition, more backstory, etc....

This is my favorite horror film of the year. Hell, what other horror flicks have come out this year?

Yes, mirrors are creepy.

I haven't seen the Korean release so I can't compare the two. I love Aja's style of film making and he brought a lot of that atmosphere to Mirrors but the movie was just alright. If fact, it's the ending that saved it from being a dull film IMO. Some of the dialog came off really funny, which I'm pretty sure wasn't the intention of the original. Amy Smart playing Kiefer's sister has one of the best CG death scenes ever. Some of the gore was pretty good, just seems everyone uses CG for blood nowadays. The ending is what really brought the movie together, to be honest I didn't see it coming at all. It's a good rental, might work better on a smaller screen but if you got some time to kill it's worth checking out. For me it's one of Aja weaker films.

I saw this and I have to say, with all due respect to everbody who liked it, I was disappointed. Mostly story with gore scenes few and far between. Story was kind of meh to me. Could not wait to get out of the theater. I did manage to land some posters from the Regal that they were going to throw away so all is good.

It wasn't all cg blood. The actual jaw ripping was practical. The slits from side to side were cg, everything else was the real deal.

I saw the movie last weekend. I gave it about 2 stars out of 4. It was kinda predictable especially the ending. Although, watching the chick that played the wife kept me glued to the screen

I was disappointed too...I think Aja is one of the top horror directors working today, but after high tension and hills have eyes this just felt like a step backwards. He can create a scary and intense scene (amy smart's jaw scene which I believe will go down as one of the most brutal horror scenes right next to the beating in irreversible) but the story just felt like your run of the mill asian ghost story which we've seen numerous times in the past couple of years.
