Default First Watchmen Review!!...Sort of

Saw this over at Joblo and got me even MORE excited for Watchmen. be march already calendar!

"Well sorta... We here at JoBlo.com haven't seen the entire WATCHMEN film yet (though we're free at a moment's notice Mr. Snyder...) but someone out there has. And that someone is Kevin Smith. Smith shared the Comic-Con stage during the Entertainment Weekly "Visionaries" panel (along with Judd Apatow and Frank Miller) and shortly thereafter Snyder invited Smith to screen a rough cut of the film. While Smith is sadly hamstrung by a non-disclosure agreement, he did post some thoughts on his MySpace blog:

And just so it's not all about me and my shit... I saw "Watchmen." It's f*cking astounding. The Non-Disclosure Agreement I signed prevents me from saying much, but I can spout the following with complete joygasmic enthusiasm: Snyder and Co. have pulled it off.

Remember that feeling of watching "Sin City" on the big screen and being blown away by what a faithful translation of the source material it was, in terms of both content and visuals? Triple that, and you'll come close to watching "Watchmen." Even Alan Moore might be surprised at how close the movie is to the book. March can't come soon enough.

"F*cking astounding"? Now that's what I want to hear. And even more astounding is that Smith likely didn't even see all the finished effects. I wonder if Alan Moore would actually eat his words if he decided to watch it and actually like it. Thanks to "Silent Jay" for the heads up!"

I wouldn't expect anything less from the mighty Zach Synder. After 300 I don't think he could make a bad movie if he tried

I don't know if I can trust Kevin Smith. He is essentially the ultimate "comic book fan," but he does like...a lot of things.

Except for Burton's Batmans.

300 was freaking atrocious!!!

This film doesn't look that faithful...but it's still a wait and see. I don't like the look they are going for, it looks like crap.

if you look at the making of features and some of the screen shots they have out that arent the trailer. they actually kept to the same color scheme and style of the book...and have done pretty faithful job as a whole from everything ive found online.

wouldnt an ultimate comic book fan be a tougher critic on this sorta thing? those are going to be the ones that blast it the most if it is done wrong. hehe.

It depends. But I think Kevin Smith even enjoyed Daredevil. There are the types of fans who are too critical, and one who'll jump with glee at every single reference. I think Kevin Smith would fall into the latter.

Yeah, wasn't he up George Lucas's ass when Phantom Menace came out?

Kevin Smith LOVES EVERYTHING!

The film is far too digital looking. To me, Watchmen should be cemented more in a real world vibe...not some highly stylized digital world. It looks way too glossy.

You know they built a (by all reports) huge New York backlot set right? And really, what are they supposed to do for some scenes/sets ... Like Snyder's joked, fly to
Spoiler Below
the artic/mars?

Anyway, I remain cautiously optimistic ... (please be good, please be good, please be good)

I know exactly what they did for the film. However, it doesn't stop the film from looking extremely digital. Real Set or no...Synder relies solely on his post guys. The film is going to be tweaked digitally. It's going to look fake. The freaking trailer pretty much proves this. It looks like crap.

That's the stupidest "joke" I've ever heard.

I'm going to watch the Thing, and laugh at Synder's stupid comment. Then I'm going to follow it up with 2001 A Space Odyssey.
