Default Oscar anticipation

It may be a ways off but with all the talk of Heath's "Oscar winning performance" I'm getting excited about upcoming movies that will actually win Oscars(Not saying Heath was bad, just saying the Academy doesn't award blockbusters with acting awards very often, i think he will get a nomination at best.)

I personally can't wait until Revolutionary Road, I love Sam Mendes' work but was extremely disappointed by Jarhead, and i hope this will be a return to form for him, It basically sounds like American Beauty in the 1950s. I also think Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett have improved greatly as actors since Titanic and i can't wait to see their performances, especially under Sam Mendes. Possible Actor/Actress, Director and Picture awards(I would think it would be great to see a Sam Mendes' film get the Big Five after just barely missing it with American Beauty)

Next, despite the mixed reaction at Cannes, which i think has led to it not getting a US distributor yet, I am excited about The Argentine and Guerrilla, again I love Steven Soderburgh and Benicio Del Toro and I really think Benicio could win Best Actor if it finds a distributor.

Obviously I think Changeling will be great, I have been a fan of all of Clint Eastwood's recent directorial efforts even Flags of our Fathers despite me being a fan of the book but that's another story.

And i don't think it will be a major contender for awards i just think Body of Lies will be good, I'm a fan of Ridely Scott and William Monahan and would like to see what they can do together again.

So, what do you think, any input on my picks and what films are all of you looking forwards to later this year that could be good Oscar contenders?

Hmmm...well, I am looking forward to a few...

* Australia (with Kidman and Jackman)...plot and trailer looks like the epic/action/adventure the academy looks for...plus Kidman is just fantastic.

* Defiance (with Daniel Craig and Liev Schriber)....love movies about my Jewish heritage...this movie looks awesome from the trailer I saw

*Wall-E might get a nod...never know

* Oscars love Meryl Streep and Mama Mia could get some nominations

and hopefully there is a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Eckhart or Ledger for TDK

And those bugs?......He discovered America is what he did. He was a brave Italian explorer. And in this house Christopher Columbus is a hero. End of story!" - Tony Soprano

Wall-E is a given for best animated feature, nothing else can touch it but maybe Kung Fu Panda and thats not even close, I haven't heard much about Australia or Defiance, but both of them look to have stellar casts, i'll have to check them out

I just saw that Defiance is directed by Edward Zwick, i have always been really satisfied with his movies

I also forgot to mention Burn After Reading, pretty much anything by The Coen Brothers is guaranteed to entertain, this seems like they are back to their black comedy roots a la Fargo and The Big Lebowski

The Academy Awards are nothing but a fashion show.
