Default THE DARK KNIGHT in IMAX

finally saw it last night in Imax. What an outstanding experience! The picture ratio changed from full Imax screen to widescreen that enhanced the movie to an overall super time. The sound was to die for as well and the movie itself was just great.

If you have not seen it in Imax , or at all, definitely check it out. Great job Imax! keep'em comin

At my local theater, they have the largest screen in Arizona (something like 3.5 times the size of an IMAX screen iirc) - and they just fitted it with digital projecters.

The weekend they put the digital projecters in, I saw the Hulk and was blown away. It's AMAZING

I went to the Imax theater in St. Augustine, FL at the World Golf Village to see it and I was very unimpressed. Specifically because of the seating and the sound. The sound wasn't as good as some of the other local theaters in town and the seats were small, cramped and had no arm room. While the wide vertical shots were nice I just don't think that they justified the extra cost nor the inconvenience of the uncomfortable seating. I honestly thought it was highly overrated here and would not recommend it to anyone.

You are not alone, the first time I saw it was at an IMAX, second time in a standard theater with digital projectors. I really didn't notice the aspect shift during the movie (guess I was paying more attention to the movie?). The layout of the theater here is the same as others, it felt too much like i was sitting on the front row of a standard theater - so maybe if you just sit on the front row of a standard theater it would be simillar (jokingly). I think people get caught up in the Imax buzz and would honestly have to see it again on Imax to look for the differences...

What does an Imax screen look like?

An Imax is coming to Augusta and I live like 20mins from there so I was wondering.

It's basically cinema turned up to 11. The screen is big. Real big. Like filling your entire field of vision big. And the picture is razor sharp, unlike what you would see on most cinema screens. And let's not forget the sound, which is truly all-encompassing. Imagine the best possible cinema experience you can think of, and you'd be pretty close. No really, it's that good. I had heard lots of stories about IMAX which I thought were pretty exaggerated, until I got to see it for myself. It really is the best presentation I have seen in my life.

The only downsides I can think of are that the font they use in IMAX theaters for the subtitles isn't very readable (though that probably won't bother you in the States), and if you sit too close to the screen, you will be forced to pan your head to get the full picture.

NO!
Imax is a flat screen 8 stories tall...the "bubble screen" you are talking about is OmniMax.

You didn't notice the aspect ratio change while watching it in the IMAX theatre? Maybe you were sitting too close or something but I thought it looked great in those scenes and it was definitely noticeable. I haven't seen it in a standard theatre but I'm pretty sure the standard theatre's constant aspect ration wouldn't wow me like the IMAX and it's special aspect ratio scenes did.

Default phony imax's

we have 2 phony Imax theaters in my area..one is about half as high and the lower rail is made of glass and cuts the view on bottom of the screen..another is just a large widescreen theater..how they get to call themselves Imax is a crime..the one i saw it in was New Rochelle's new roc cinima..it is an official size full sized Imax..the kind I am used to..so if you saw it one those so called"Imax" theatres , I understand the lack of excitement...we always make sure we go to the one we know looks and sounds awesome....even when showing non Imax films like the Lord of the Rings movies..and Van Helsing , were astonishing in this theater

Sounds amazing. I saw it at my local theater on a standard screen but my thoughts briefly switched from what was happening on screen to 'this would look fu*king amazing on IMAX' during some of the aerial shots in Hong Kong & Gotham.

I've seen it once in IMAX and then 4 times in a regular theater and the IMAX version makes the regular version look like crap by comparison. Then again, my local theater sucks. I flew to Houston (parents live there) to see it in IMAX during opening weekend. The sound is also way better in IMAX.

The 8000k resolution IMAX filmed footage was worth it. Absolutely breat-taking, amazing how many more minute details were visible on such an enormous screen!

Cine Capri FTW!!! Still can't believe they've still got this playing there. I may have to go one last time this weekend.
