    Default G.I Joe ( 2009 )

Anyone else amped to see this movie? I loved gi joes as a kid and I was skeptical but after seeing they are being faithful to how the characters looked and in terms of storyline it does seem promising as of now.

Here is the first picture of Snake Eyes for those who have yet to see it. I'm personally a Storm Shadow fan and cant wait to see what he looks like

I was a big fan of G.I. Joes as a kid, too, but all these films cashing in on nostalgia is getting annoying (i.e. the product-placement crapfest that was Transformers).

that is how films get paid for, dont let it get to you and you will enjoy it more. no worse than sony using all its products in their films, or the person drinking coke or pepsi. but i do hope it turns out awesome

You're right; I forgot about all the references to HP and Cisco in Citizen Kane and The Godfather.

There's a certain level of "marketing placement" that's acceptable. Like if two friends are talking over coffee...and it just happens to be Starbucks. That's fine, the scene calls for a coffee shop, and it obvious people go to Starbucks.

Background advertisement is fine...it's when you bring into the forefront that it becomes highly cheesy, immersion breaking, and dated. The scene from Wayne's World really sums this up.

However, Transformers crossed a line by having 30 second spots almost every 5 minutes for products that were unrelated to the Transformers. The goal of Transformers were to sell me Transformers...not an Xbox 360, Mountain Dew, The New Camaro, an SD Card, GPX, Apple, HP...etc.

Society shouldn't be comfortable with that type of "forced" advertisement. The fact people are comfortable with it scares me.

While it should be expected to see brand names in films, it's a bit ridiculous when something like a laptop has an HP logo on it that's about 5 times the normal size, as you see in one of the earlier scenes in Transformers. I find such tactics annoying and insulting.

The worst I've ever seen is the scene from The Matrix when Neo's cell phone falls from his office window. The cell phone stops in mid-air for about a second with the word "Nokia" perfectly legible and enormous across the big screen, then continues to fall. They might as well have had the "can you hear me now?" guy pop out from the edge of the screen.

no worse than casino royal where every electronic piece he uses is from sony. he uses the Sony Erikson phone, and you know thats what it is because it is so cleaverly right under the top of the screen.

I'm definitely not defending Casino Royale, either. I thought that was just as much a stinker as Transformers.

Wow, it must be a lot of fun watching movies with you. I agree, that there was a lot of ad placements in Transformers but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the film one bit. I'm in my mid-twenties and Transformers was my favorite "summer, popcorn" flick in the last 10 years. Try relaxing when you watch a movie, focus on the plot and not the extra bull shit and you might enjoy yourself a lot more.
