Fourth Bourne Movie a go!
Way back in the 1990s when it was first announced that Robert Ludlum's Bourne trilogy was being licensed by Universal, it seemed to me like one of those situations where either a) they would never actually make The Bourne Identity or that even if they did, it probably wouldn't lead to Supremacy and Ultimatum. There are many, many cases of studios buying the rights to properties that could become a series of movies, but they don't actually happen (recent examples: Sahara, The Golden Compass, etc). However, with the movies proving to be huge hits, and their popularity only increasing with each new release, quite the opposite has happened, in relation to the original deal. See, Robert Ludlum only wrote three Bourne novels, but the economics of Hollywood suggest more of an interest in continuing to churn Bourne movies until people stop paying to see them. So, the news came out this week that Universal recently got Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass to agree to return for a fourth Bourne movie.

Unlike how most series fizzle out after time I actually thought the 3rd was a nice addition to the franchise. I'd definitely be into a 4th.

As the OP neglected to mention, another author took up the Bourne series in books after Robert Ludlum died. His name is Eric Van Lustbader and wrote The Bourne Legacy followed up by The Bourne Betrayal. I expect we'll see both of them if we see one of them.
Personally I was hoping they would end with the Robert Ludlum books and not continue on with the Van Lustbader books.
Edit: That's not to say that the Eric Van Lustbader books are bad, as I haven't read them yet, but Ultimatum was a great movie... why go past it when it had such a great ending? Why risk ruining the series?
I guess if he keeps writing books for Bourne, they'll keep making Bourne movies and it can become another super spy series following in the footsteps of Bond. I really hope not though. A trilogy was good. A series I have my doubts about.Started as an HD DVD supporter,
Now I strongly support Blu-ray.
Technically that means I'm Purple, but since HD DVD is dead, it doesn't really matter anymore.
I own lots of
