    $150-160 million.

Positive reviews will contribute to hype. 3D premiums will help. Decent shot at taking down TDK, though less tickets. Unlikely to take overall record considering May release.

Opening weekend, I'm going to say $200 million. I went and saw it last night so I know this is the type of movie that will appeal to the masses.

You will be the closest, and I would have called this ludicrous even yesterday. I thought 180 OW was the ceiling given the previous record and the fact that schools aren't out, but with an 80 million opening day and the ridiculous WOM it's getting, 200 million is in play, but conservatively, 185-190 million is what we can expect for now until we get indication otherwise that WOM is spreading even quicker.

I agree. It seemed insane that it would be possible to me, for it to hit 200... but now it actually looks possible. We'll see though.

Weekend estimate: $200,300,000. This makes this flick the all-time highest opening weekend ever....beating the former highest (Harry Potter: Deathly Hollows Part 2) by $30 million. DAMN!

What do you guys think (fellow HDD broths and sistas) of the chances of Avengers eclipsing Avatar in the domestic box office earnings? I mean, with the wom, the posivitive reviews, advertising, and this awesome great start....I'm thinking it may be a possibility.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Titanic sure, Avatar? Need to wait at least till next weekend. I would say chances are extremely slim, but you can't rule it out

What and when is the next big movie coming out? If it is Battleship, no worries there. But it does seem like a pretty strong summer for big movies which will hurt those chances. I enjoyed Avatar but once in theaters and that was enough. I will be seeing Avengers at least 1 more time. I will wait a week or 2 so I don't have to deal with as large a crowd.

Eh there's a steady stream of movies that might eat into Avengers' box office a bit, but likely it will work the other way around. MiB3 will be the first movie to realistically beat the Avengers.

But it's not necessarily competition that's gonna stop the Avengers so much as blockbusters don't work this way, and James Cameron seems to be master of marathon-ing, and he's always won out in the end.
