I think your right about the Avengers holding onto #1 until MIB 3 comes out. But if MIB 3 takes #1 away from the Avengers it would because Avengers is 3 weeks old and MIB 3 is newer, imo. Not because MIB 3 is better, again imo. I see nothing in that movie that is worth revisiting again. MIB 1 was okay....2 was meh.

Holy shit! Over $100 million for 2nd weekend. And will probably pass $1 Billion today for worldwide.
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/05/1...-dark-shadows/
Of course Tony Stark wasn’t satisfied with just one weekend of headlines!
After its record-demolishing $207.4 million debut last weekend, The Avengers easily stayed atop the box office in its second frame, soaring to $103.2 million (a drop of only 50 percent) over the Friday-to-Sunday period. That figure crushes the second weekend box office record, which was formerly held by Avatar with its $75.6 million sophomore frame.
Incredibly, The Avengers‘ 50 percent drop is the smallest second weekend decline of any film that achieved one of the Top 10 opening weekends of all time. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 fell by 72 percent after its $169.1 million debut. The Dark Knight dipped 53 percent after its $158.4 million start. The Hunger Games and Spider-Man 3 both sank by 62 percent after their debuts of $152.5 million and $151.1 million, respectively. Those sorts of drops are just expected when dealing with gargantuan openings like these, but Avengers started much higher and fell by much less — a clear indicator of positive audience reception.
The superhero ensemble , which has grossed $373.2 million total, also broke a slew of other records this weekend as well. Not only did The Avengers score the best second Friday ($29.1 million), Saturday ($43.1 million) and Sunday ($30.9 million) in box office history, but it became the fastest film to ever pass $300 million on Saturday, its ninth day of release (The Dark Knight accomplished this in ten days). And today, on its tenth day in domestic theaters, Avengers became the fastest film to ever pass $350 million, zooming by The Dark Knight‘s record of 14 days.

The only 2012 release that has earned more money than The Avengers is The Hunger Games, which has grossed $386.9 million after eight weekends in theaters. By this time next week, though, Avengers will have blown right by Katniss and company as it continues its ascent to at least $500 million, a milestone that is an absolute lock at this point. With remarkable word-of-mouth (it earned an “A+” CinemaScore grade), Avengers should continue to see modest drops in the weeks to come, and I won’t be one bit surprised if it marches right past the $600 million mark.
Internationally, the film continue to impress, and after 19 days, it has grossed $628.9 million. That’s far more than the international totals of its predecessors: Captain America ($192 million), Iron Man ($266.7 million), Thor ($268.3 million) and Iron Man 2 ($311.5 million). Disney estimates that today The Avengers will pass the $1 billion mark. -

Already being worked on.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We all knew it was coming. Hell, Marvel even teased the next villain in the credits. Oh, and the movie is setting box office records and has the critics, geek and non-geek alike, eating out of its hand.
But Bob Iger said on a big stock holder conference call that Disney is actively developing the sequel and, surprise surprise, Avengers merchandise is in high demand!
At what point will discussing the villain in the next film become a spoiler? I'll give it a little more time, but it's gotta be soon and that's bound to be a fun discussion. There's so many ways to go and the villain itself promises an even bigger scope than the first film.
When I was on the set, Kevin Feige hinted that 2015 was the planned release year for the sequel. Here's hoping we can get Ant Man filmed so there's some new blood within the group! And that also gives Marvel a few years to work out secret deals with Fox and Sony to license their own characters so we all shit ourselves when the Fantastic Four shows up and Spidey swings in to save the day at a certain point.

We went and saw it last night. Great movie, but we were forced into 3d due to other shows being sold out. On top of that, we had to sit in the very first row. So that sucked. Cant wait to watch it at home because alot of times the 3d and the shitty seats made it hard to see some of the shit that was going on.

Four eyes! When ever I go to 3D I make sure I wear my contacts. But I haven't been to a 3D flick in a while. I try to just go the ones that were shot in 3D and not converted in post. The one exception was Alice in Wonderland. That actually had pretty great 3D. I will end up getting the 3D blu ray though.
And Avatar I refused to go see till it wasn't so damn crowded. I went 1 night and had to see 2012 since Avater was still packed. -
