I'm very excited for this, but still don't know why they had to put Bruce Willis-like prosthetics on Joseph-Gordon Levitt. It's kind of silly since the dawn of movies we've seen young actors play younger versions of older actors who they look nothing like. Some of the stills are a little off-putting. I don't need the facial prosthetic to make me believe that he's supposed to be Willis' younger version.

I actually disagree with you on this. The 1st stills I thought were great how they made JGL look like Willis. I was actually a little disappointed how good the stills mad him look compared to the trailer. It's a little bit there. I like that they are trying to make them look alike.

Maybe I am a weird one but I get a little mad when they have 2 actors playing brothers that look nothing alike. Just change it to cousins or something. I have many cousins I don't resemble at all, but it's obvious me and my sister are siblings. It's not terribly important, but it does irk me some.
Like when they cast Jake Gyllenhaal and Toby Maguire as brothers in Brothers. That was great casting. never actually went to see it since it looked dumb, but I respected the casting choice. -

Huh. I've just never thought of it like that. I'm sure 'Brothers' wouldn't work as well if it were called 'Cousins'

I mean I totally bought that River Phoenix was young Indy they didn't need to make him have Harrison Ford features. I believed that Tom Hanks was the younger version of Paul Edgecomb without them making him look like Dabbs Greer. And so on with the hundreds of other films that have featured different aged actors playing the same character.
It's just kind of funny to me that they chose now, at this time, with this movie, to address something that's been completely the opposite throughout the history of cinema. All they've given as an explanation to why they did this was so people will believe they are the same person, but people would've already believed that anyway.
Sorry, I'm not trying to be contentious at all. I understand your points, but I'm confused as to why they've suddenly chosen to go this route. -

I used the Brothers as an example where they did look like they could be brothers. And with Big, that kid looked like Tom Hanks as a kid too. Also enjoyed River Phoenix as Indy, but never would picture him growing into Harrison Ford. Same goes that I don't buy Shia as Indy's kid either.
Sure there is the suspension of disbelief with movies in general, and this would fall into that category. I just actually like this idea. Although the trailer makes this look like it is more JGL's movie than Bruce Willis even though he got 1st billing. Maybe should of made Willis look more like JGL. But then again, Willis is much more recognizable than JGL.
And Rian Johnson choosing to go this route for this pic, I would wager it's because JGL looks nothing like Willis. He's one of those actors that will probably look young forever and as good as an actor as he is, I would never buy him as near a hard ass as many of the characters Bruce Willis has played. That would be my guess, but going on pure speculation.
In any case, this writer/director has made 2 very cool flicks and it looks like he has also made a 3rd very cool movie. This will be one I actually make a trip to the theaters for.
And while Quentin Tarantino didn't go the route of make up, he made sure in Reservoir Dogs that when he cast the dad and son mob (can't remember the character's names, and only remember Chris Penn played the son) that he wanted them to look like they could of been father and son. -

Saw it this morning. It's a very smart, gritty sci-fi film. I did think that the weird make-up on JGL took me out of the film a little in the first half, but I forgot about it pretty quickly. It's quite noticeable that JGL has studied Bruce Willis as he has the looks and glares Willis gives down to perfection.
I was completely and utterly taken by this movie, its premise, its characters and its conclusion. Even though the time travel/hitman gimmick is a really cool one, the genius of the movie is that it doesn't rely solely on that gimmick for success. I already want to see it again. -

Also, I'm not quite sure why I thought 'Looper' was PG-13 going into it. It's a strong R.
