I have to tell you I think this is getting out of hand. I love this site and have had no problems thus far but honestly I think, HDD should not put a feedback system into play and encourage these types of trades/sales and then not have some sort of insurance for member's that would refund their money up to a certain amount ( could be as low as $20 ) so that people did not get scammed. I do realize that HDD is very dedicated and responsible with regards to helping us out as a community, but I was always been against free on-line trading with no insurance. Perhaps if this were implemented we could have a better experience. Let's say insurance is optional and would require a small fee to be paid per transaction or yearly and that would give your account a distinction sort of what we see with moderators. Basically a Pay-pal verified type deal. Other than that what stopping somebody with a few feedbacks like myself from going nuts on this site and jack about 50 movies in a couple days before people realize it. As for the Poll, I say yes as long as you legally have the authority to publicly display derogatory information under somebody's name on the Internet.

How can you expect insurance on private deals? HDD is not here just for us to trade, its only allowed because they allow it. We engage in deals by ourselves with ourselves. Enter and deal at your own risk. Its free to us to use so why would HDD invest anything for insurance?

I voted no, because I always hate what at least to me looks like taking the low road. I realize there's a certain persieved safty value, but i have to wonder whether there are other measures that could be taken.

Well I don't expect them to do so. I'm just stating that it would be better for all. Secondly if they developed the feedback rating system they are obviously encouraging a trade/sale market on the website, thus they are accountable for anything that takes place on their website. Again it was a simple suggestion in terms of what would be possible to ensure more security, not that I hold HDD accountable for anything. So .

utterly and entirely incorrect.

from the FORUM RULES, found on every page:

Quote:
(15) No BUYING, TRADING, or SELLING anywhere with the exception of the Disc Exchange areas. High-Def Digest is NOT RESPONSIBLE for any loss due to any sale or exchange of any item in the Disc Exchange forum areas. Caveat Emptor!!
and from the rules thread in EVERY section of the Marketplace:

Quote:
High Def Digest takes *no* responsibility for transactions that go sour -- in other words, use this forum at your own risk.
by posting on this site, you already agree to the rules/TOS of the site. this isn't pick and choose time, for whatever you feel works best for you.

YOU choose to use the area, YOU realize there is a chance for something to go wrong. period. This has been in the site rules as long as the site has existed, and won't change for anyone.

NO site would ever do what you're proposing. I could think up at least 4 different ways to scam it, and I'm one of the "NICE" guys who does everything by the book!

Let's assume for a moment that HDD did include some sort of insurance on the transactions which took place on this forum. Who would ultimately be responsbile for said insurance? It wouldn't be the buyers, it'd have to come from the sellers. Meaning that instead of charging $10-$20 for a movie, that person would probably have to charge between $12-$22 to make up the difference... Doesn't sound like much does it? But with just a few dollar premium the now competitive prices suddenly are no different then that of E-bay or Amazon. Whats my incentive for buying/trading here then? None. So now as a Seller I'm less inclined to sell/trade here as well since I have the same kind of fee's and such as I do on the other 2 sites, and less traffic to notice my items for sale. Suddenly the forum dries up for sales, and we're all back to scouring the net for better prices. It's always a risk to buy something from someone on a message board, but these boards are run as well as any I've ever seen, and insurance to be honest would only make things worse. Finally, how would we even prove the insurance claim if we were the buyer? I could claim the package never arrived but It'd be my word against theres... tracking info could become mandatory, but again we run into more fee's and such again.

It really comes down to this... You have the choice were to spend your money how you want... if someone seems shady, don't deal with them. If you can't find people on this site whom you trust enough to do deals with, then stick to the big sites such as E-bay or Amazon and the rest of us will take our chances here.

Disregard folks you just dont get it. Another thing please folks Im not saying that I beleive they should offer insurance on transactions Im just saying that it would be great if it were a possibility, obviously its not. As for the poll give me the hall of fame and not the shame. Just show's a bit more class on our part.

Yes, do it.

And while your at it, make it a point to change the 'Member'/'Banned' to say something like "TRADE VIOLATION" or something like that where normal people go see it and no where to go for more information.

Sure, I don't even trade here (but I do ebay etc) and I'll vote yes.

What I dont understand though, is, why is this site so reluctant to use stronger bans - like ip bans or some other such net? I realize that people can still go through proxys, but many don't know how to do that I'd wager - and it certainly can't hurt. If a "good member" got caught up in one, just use some sort of banfree for that user. Unless whatever security system this board is using doesn't support any better ban security - which would explain a few things
