Default SD-DVD Player Forum

I recommend you add a forum for discussing topics related to SD-DVD - especially upconverting technology and players. I recommend this so it can be weeded out of the Smackdown forum where it just turns into another juvenile bashing session with little intelligent or objective discussion. An area where folks can discuss and compare player performance upconverting SD-DVD's (be they blu-ray, HD-DVD or SD-DVD players) would be of value to members, imho. Maybe under "Related Topics"? Or force these threads into one of the existing "Related Topics" forums?

I'm sorry Rich but I just don't see this happening. The site is called HIGH-DEF Digest. Most people don't come here for SD material

I understand - but it sure turns into a completely juvenile name calling session inside the Smackdown regardless. I suggest either give it a separate section to discuss rationally - or kill it altogether from everywhere. Maybe we should just point folks at the AVS forums for discussion of topics like this if High-Def Digest isn't interested?

I will repeat what I said.... Go make a thread in the home theater section, that's what it is for, among other things. If people try to bring smackdown in it, the mods will smack them down.

I'm in favor of an SD DVD forum. Why not?

There's so much discussion of SD DVDs and upconversion spread across the board, discussion that isn't going to go away... why not consolidate it into one area of the forum?

Sure this board's primary focus is high-def, but let's not be obtuse. This board is populated by people who love movies and anything electronic.

I would say that a thread in the Home Theater section would suffice. As stated before any Smackdown in a non Smackdown area would be Smacked down.

the problem is that blu-ray's main competition IS sd dvd.
so imo it makes sense to have arguments in the smackdown forum about sd.
I would love to know what else there is to talk/argue about in smackdown?
certainly not VOD. It's barely in existence right now.

We already have a forum for SD DVD player, the Home Theatre gear forum and it is not a smackdown forum. Why open a new forum for one player?

I started this thread - I DID NOT advocate a new forum for "one player".
I advocated a new forum to discuss upconverting technology and player capabilities - regardless of what type of device those capabilities were incorporated within.
I assume your reference to "one player" relates to the new Toshiba XD-E500. I would expect some discussion of that player would end up in a "SD-DVD Upconverting" forum. I am advocating having a place where a somewhat mature discussion can occur about players like this, and comparisons to how well other players (be they SD-DVD, HD-DVD, blu-ray, combos, game systems, etc.) upconvert, etc.
And hopefully the moderators would keep out the childish behavior that goes on constantly in smackdown and prevents any rational discussion of anything. I also do not see this "SD-DVD Upconverting" forum as advocating SD-DVD over blu-ray. It could easily advocate particular blu-ray players as we discuss which blu-ray or combo players have the better upconverting capabilities to improve our enjoyment of our SD-DVD collections.
Upconverting SD-DVD technology and implementations in ce devices is an important topic in the world of home theater. It warrants a place to be discussed in an adult fashion where folks can share knowledge, learn from others and hear about the experiences of others without wading through tons of unrelated material - or in the case of smackdown - tons of nonsense.

I would like to see an SD DVD forum also. I don't think it belongs in smackdown. Not only that, no real discussions can be made in that childish forum. (Well, they can, but mostly they are filled with nonsense and fanboyism.) Sure it can go in the Home Theater forum, but people don't seem to be doing that. I'd like to see it's own forum.

I'm thinking a dedicated sub-forum called "SD-DVD Upconverting Technology" or something like that under "Related Topics (Not Format-Specific) would work just fine. What do you think?

And why have not any thread about upconverting DVD players been posted in the correct forum, Home Theatre Gear? The only threads that exist about upconverting DVD players are those about Toshiba XD-E550 in the smack down area and discussions in smackdown are tend to lead to smackdowns...

If people are so interested in upconverting DVD players, why don't they post any threads (reviews, questions or news) in other threads than the Smackdown area?

If one take a look in the Home Theatre Gear forum, it looks like we need a reciever/tuner sub-forum. Some of those are also up converters and most talk about up converters seems to be related to these.
