Default Feature Frezee Please !

I think that it is time for a Feature Freeze. This forum has been very buggy and downright inoperable for weeks. It is all good and neat that you are changing a few things but I would prefer that it just flat worked first. If you stop changing things for awhile you will find it easier to fix the bugs.

Thanks.

The things that we are changing has nothing to do with the site running slow. That's a network issue that is effecting multiple sites and is being worked on.

If they were related we wouldn't be making any modifications to the site.

Has not the new tabs increased net load? Even if it is small pictures, 20 small pictures being loaded every time somebody click on a link could increase net load a bit. Do not now if browser caching decrease this.

I have noticed a little bit more loading on my mobile unit.

Great to see that you guys seem to be on top of it. I don't want to come off as negative in anyway because I love this site its just that there are more issues other than the site running slow. There are trackback dialog boxes and the url issue after posting, ad issues, other little stuff. I dont know if the report feature has been repaired or not as it was non functional for so long that people just stoped using it.

I just think that its a matter of alot of buggyness in such a short period of time that alot of us are a little cranky about it. Don't worry though we still love you guys.

We added 11 images, but removed 16 (some of those were likely obsolete and therefore not downloaded), so I don't think that had much of an impact. I haven't done any analysis of load sizes as a result of the change, but I don't think it should be substantially different.

Small images like that won't effect server load, what they can potentially effect is bandwidth, and this site is nowhere near it's allotted bandwidth. Also, the new nav bar should be using less bandwidth, because the last nav bar was image based while this one is text based. Also, you are correct about cashing... the menu styling has been moved to the stylesheet which will make that more efficient.

There is never anything wrong with giving us feedback or suggesting something. We only know what the community wants when they tell us. And Don't worry about being cranky-- I do this job on a number of forums and am quite used to it. Only rarely does it get under my skin. A lot of this has to do with prioritization and us trying to look at a different picture than many of you. Obviously, functionality is of paramount importance and we want to fix as many things as possible. (I just got an email that the trackback issue is solved, FYI) Still, we have a battle plan for the direction we'd like to see the site move in. These things unfortunately conflict at times, but it is the growing pains of progress!
