Default When selling movies (etc.) no "Make an offer"

I know some forums do this and I really like the rule. I personally am instantly discouraged from PMing someone when they write "make an offer." I mean if I write "I'll give you 8 dollars shipped," then they write, "I was looking for more about 10 dollars," then why not just write 10 dollars?

I'd imagine the reason would be because the seller is taking advantage of the buyer who will probably offer more money then they'd normally offer.

This is just my opinion obviously.

Heck, I'm the opposite on many threads where sellers list a price that I am unwilling to pay. I figure they are firm by listing a price and it would be insulting for me to offer a lower price to them. I like the offer threads and IMO it's perfectly acceptable to see what the market is willing to pay and no one is being taken adavantage of as the person buying said they are willing to pay a certain amount. Pretty simple to me. Only offer what you are willing to pay.

I prefer that prices be listed as well. The make an offer line is a bit annoying, this isn't eBay, if I wanted to bid, I'd go there. Listed prices expedite the sales process.

I will concede that it does expedite the sale process.

However maybe I am the only one, when I make an offer, I make it clear in the PM that my offer is as high as it is going to go so no need to haggle with me over it.

How do you guys feel on the threads listing titles that someone wants to by and say "Send me a PM with your price"? Seems kind of the same. If we start requiring sellers to list prices, then we are going to have to insist that buyers list what they are willing to pay. Kind of removes the supply/demand part and will only succeed in driving up prices for buyers as they consistently outbid each other for titles.

I also think as long as people who ask for offers and such don't post the agreed to price in public then no harm is done to the trade market on the board. If we start putting indiscrimate values on titles simply because we want something very badly then the trading could become problematic as 1 guy could say "But titleA is worth this much to this guy, so you'll have to get me a title in trade that is going for equal value or no deal". I only forsee problems and have since abandoned forums that required prices because of it and the non-stop back and forth that resulted from it.

I'm down with that. I think prices have to be stated buying or selling.

Maybe I wasn't clear, but I think you missed what I was driving at in that post.

Give me a break. How many times do people post prices and yet just about everyone who responds says ,.. "How about $XX.00 for it???"

What the heck is the difference? Either way both buyer and seller is "bidding" HAHA LOL

I ignore offer threads because I'm not comfortable making them. It's like reading a catalog where the prices aren't listed and you have to call, I lose interest fast. Practically all stores list their prices and it makes life easier than the flea market haggle of make me an offer and then we can start negotiating. That's just me, but everyone's different for sure and some like the back and forth and negotiating stuff.
